Faith has a starting point

Faith Framework

Gap between what you believed and what you experienced in life

What would it look like to start our faith as an adult?

“The Bible says”, is not an adequate starting point or returning point for many adults.

The Bible also says...

“The Bible says”, was never intended as the starting point for the Christian faith.

We can not begin with...

Were Adam and Eve really naked?

Was Jonah swallowed by a real fish?

Why does God allow bad things to happen?

The starting point is a question?...

Who is Jesus?

Everything else is interesting and important but not where we start.

Sin

Mistake, insufficient knowledge

Sometimes we make “mistakes” on purpose.

Sometimes we plan our “mistakes”

A premeditated mistake

We make same “mistakes” over and over.

You correct a mistake

You can’t correct you.

Sinner, Somebody who knows better but does it anyway.

Jesus’ purpose in talking bout sin was restoration, not condemnation

Matthew 5:20 NLT
“But I warn you—unless your righteousness is better than the righteousness of the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven!
Matthew 5:21 (NLT)
“You have heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not murder...
Matthew 5:21 NLT
“You have heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment.’
Matthew 5:27 NLT
“You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’
Matthew 5:28 NLT
But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Woman caught in adultery

Lost Sheep, Lost Coin, Lost Son

Luke 15:21 NLT
His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son.’
Luke 15:22 (NLT)
“But his father said to the servants...
Luke 15:22 NLT
“But his father said to the servants, ‘Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet.
Luke 15:24 NLT
for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.’ So the party began.

Recognition of sin paves the way to restoration.
