Text: I John 4.1-9

John opens with two commands
1. Believe not ever Spirit.
2. Try the spirits
Why? - Because there are false spirits. These spirits are antichrist. In Christ is life and these spirits pull us from life.
This doesn’t have to be confusing to us.
Any Spirit that claims Jesus born, crucified, resurrected - write them off. Throw them out, rebuke them move on.
You don’t have to be ugly to people, but see it as what it is demonic activity that it is. (vs 3)
Please note these religious ideas will appear to be Christian in nature but will point away from Christ.
1 John 2:22–23 KJV 1900
Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.
Two sides
Ye are of God........................They are of the World
This is not the first time John brought this up. In fact there are four people mentioned the people that make up the church.
1. Abandoners. vs 5
1 John 2:19 KJV 1900
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
These are those that leave the faith of Jesus Christ.
note: this is not talking about those that have left your church. But we ought to be serious about our relationship to our church. This is specifically speaking about those that have walked away from the faith of Jesus Christ.
2. Little Children (4)
1 John 2:12–13 KJV 1900
I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake. I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.
These Children are identified by...
Belonging
Filled
Forgiven
Knowing the Father
They are in a position of helpless adoration. They are empty of self and dependent on Him.
3. Young Men
1 John 2:13–14 KJV 1900
I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father. I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.
These are described as OVERCOMERS
They’ve won some battles. They are like the hunting dogs you have to put away before they ruin a hunt. They have the taste of blood in their mouth and they like it.
They are...
Strong
Know Scripture
Love not the World
Love God
4. Fathers
1 John 2:13 KJV 1900
I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.
The last three have a general promise that they can lean on...
The Promise of Enlightenment
1 John 2:20–21 KJV 1900
But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
1 John 2:24 KJV 1900
Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
1 John 2:27–28 KJV 1900
But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
1 John 4:3 KJV 1900
And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
So the question comes...
How do we continue in our growth and not abandon the faith?
LOVE NOT THE WORLD
1 John 2:16 KJV 1900
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
Lust of the flesh
Lust of the eyes
Pride of life
Yall think that God is playing in these verses. Satan is playing for your heart.
He is using Temptation
He is using the False teacher
“the prize of the heart is fought on the battlefield of the mind.”
This is why your faith is so crucial. We have bought the lie that we need to trim our appetites and find them satisfied in Jesus. Scripture says empty yourself of these things remove them don’t try to make them reformed. let his word abide in you… Let his Spirit enlighten you to his book…Call on him in prayer… Participate in the Worship of one who is greater than you. Why so that you might empty yourself of the thing that is fighting for your soul.
LOVE GOD (7-8)
