The Wicked Sons 1:3 - Hophni and Phineas
vs. 12 - They were corrupt, they were worthless. Our venac. we would say they were of the Devil.
They did not know the Lord.
Romans 1:28 “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;”
They were robbing the sacrifice of the people.
“Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘He who offers the sacrifice of his peace offering to the Lord shall bring his offering to the Lord from the sacrifice of his peace offering. His own hands shall bring the offerings made by fire to the Lord. The fat with the breast he shall bring, that the breast may be waved as a wave offering before the Lord. And the priest shall burn the fat on the altar, but the breast shall be Aaron’s and his sons’. Also the right thigh you shall give to the priest as a heave offering from the sacrifices of your peace offerings. He among the sons of Aaron, who offers the blood of the peace offering and the fat, shall have the right thigh for his part. For the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the heave offering I have taken from the children of Israel, from the sacrifices of their peace offerings, and I have given them to Aaron the priest and to his sons from the children of Israel by a statute forever.’ ”
They were robbing the people of their sacrifice to God. Getting fat off what belonged to God.
What happened to Ananias and Sapphira ?
Vs. 17 - They treated the offering of the Lord with ‘Contempt” no regard - they were reckless and careless with the commands of God.
They could care less what God’s word says - they are going to do their thing.
BIG CONTRAST with Samuel 18-21
A Prophecy against The Eli’s Household.
Eli knew all about what his son’s were doing.
vs. 25 God was going to kill them - Where is God’s grace and mercy?
God can take any of us out any time he desires. But He is longsuffering and full of mercy.
(again we need to have a reverence and a holy fear for God and His commandments)
Vs. 27 - God sends a prophet - who is this? - a man of God.
- He Reminds him of God’s grace of deliverance
- You Kick at my sacrifice - Represents His Grace
You honor your sons more than me. (His children were who he worshipped and made an idol)
I will honor those who honor me
“Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.
vs. 31 - I am going to cut off your strength. Your lineage stops here.
34 - a sign I am going to kill them both on the same day.
God says that He will raise up a Faithful priest and His name is Samuel.
