Like we ave been lets read the full section
1 Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him.
2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
5 “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons[a] of God.
And the two verse we will be focusing on today.
10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.
12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

PREFACE TO OUR TEXT
It is not on accident that this is the last of the beatitudes
You cannot respond in the manner Jesus describes here in verse 12 of being joyful in the midst of persecution unless your life is characterized by righteousness of the heart.
This beatitude is not describing a characteristic, but rather the reaction of the world against those that are righteous.
PERSONAL STORY
Do you ever go into a conversation with the wrong mindset?
like you think that person wants to talk to you about something bad or blame you for something, but in reality they have no intention of that?
I tend to do this constantly.
I am a textbook over thinker so i immediately get defensive
MORE STORY HERE
i thought there was justification for my actions but in reality i had a false under standing of the situation.
CONTEXT FOR POINT ONE
VERESE 10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Its important for us to see that it’s specified “persecuted for righteousness’ sake, “
Its not just anyone who is being persecuted
Don’t get this verse twisted.
Many people want to claim this blessing when in reality the persecution they are under is caused by their own evildoing
1 Peter 4:14-16
14 If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory[a] and of God rests upon you.
15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler.
16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name.
It is only a righteous persecution that God will bless if its for a Godly reason, AND in a God honoring way.
a massive emphasis on the AND
That means in order for God to Honor it it needs to bee fulling honoring to home.
We have to remover all Pride, arrogance, obnoxiousness, rude and offensive words and behavior
EXAMPLES
There is no blessing for persecution that comes for those reasons, only for persecution that comes for righteousness sake.
hostile politics Other EXAMPLES
So all of this means we need to remember this:
POINT ONE
1. Opposition isn’t necessarily righteous persecution
I love how its put in first peter
1 Peter 2:19-21
19 For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly.
20 For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure?
But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God.
21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.
CONTEXT FOR POINT TWO
“Persecuted” = the greek word “Dee-Oh-Koh
MEANING: to pursue or hut with the intention of killing or causing harm to.
PERFECT PARTICIPLE: meaning its not just “Are” the are is added in English, it isn’t in the greek.
Becuase this word for persecuted means has been, is, and will be.
Which means our goal cant be to find an end to our persecution.
There is no end to the persecution.
We shouldn’t pursue an end to our persecution
Paul tell us in 2 Timothy 3:12 that “indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.”
Gods followers have been persecuted All throughout history starting in genesis 4 with Cain and Abel.
It only took 4 chapters, and only 4 humans in existence before Gods followers to began to be persecuted.
From that moment on we have seen it throughout the whole Bible and history
POINT TWO
2. We shouldn’t pursue an end to our persecution
2 Timothy 3:12
12 Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
John 15:20
20 Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’
If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.
If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.
Persecution is awful and frightening
there is no denying that
But in one way or another we will always face it.
so it is a waste of our time to try putting a definitive end to it.
But what we can do is love and pray for those who persecute us.
Jesus said in Matthew 5:43-48 “to love and pray for your enemies.
“
So even if someone opposes god and hate you there is no room for us to respond with hate or aggression
thats not how Jesus lived in earth
Lets continue on
MATTHEW 5:11
11 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.
“Revile” = Blame it Defame
Persecution isn’t just physical, it can be verbal, econocalal etc.
but as we are getting close to Christmas listen.
Someone saying happy holidays isn’t persecution, you might not like it, you might not agree with the statement and that’s fine.
But it’s not persecution.
Now maybe your wondering why I keep making these distinctions and repeatedly bring up things that are not persecution.
That’s because there are so many Christian’s that claim those things to be their persecution.
