call to worship
Psalm 107:1 NKJV
1 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.
Giving
1 Chronicles 29:12–14 NKJV
12 Both riches and honor come from You, And You reign over all. In Your hand is power and might; In Your hand it is to make great And to give strength to all. 13 “Now therefore, our God, We thank You And praise Your glorious name. 14 But who am I, and who are my people, That we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from You, And of Your own we have given You.

Religion or Relationship

Matthew 9:14–17 NKJV
14 Then the disciples of John came to Him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?” 15 And Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast. 16 No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse. 17 Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”

1. Never put method over Messiah

Matthew 9:14–15 NKJV
14 Then the disciples of John came to Him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?” 15 And Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.
Sometimes we get so into form we forget the relationship.
here we see the disciples of John criticizing the disciples of Jesus for not engaging in activities that will bring them closer to God, while they have God in the flesh among them.
like the man who posted what he was giving his wife for valentines day before he actually gave it to his wife and then wondered why she didn’t feel loved.
we need to remember that it is all about Jesus and not about us.
this is a week of national prayer and thanksgiving.
this is the time of the year when traditionally we get back to the basics: Faith, Family, and faith.
it would be a sad thing if we ate and did not give thanks.
it would be worse if a christian didn’t know Christ.

2. there is a time and place for everything.

Matthew 9:16–17 NKJV
16 No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse. 17 Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
The Lord Jesus doesn’t do away with fasting. He just says now for the disciples is not the time.
Matthew 9:15 NKJV
15 And Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.
look at the b clause But the day will come.
what did Johns disciples forget?
Jesus is here!
what do Christians forget ? its about jesus.
I don't mind formality.
there is a time and place for everything.
nothing should get in the way of Jesus.
