Prayer & Hope
CAPTURE
Someone I know has a baby who was a lil cross-eyed
One eye pulled in hard
Baby couldn’t see that well. You’d get right up to her and she’d be *startled*
Friendly blobs took care of her
Got glasses… and everything changed. Clarity was given to her world
CONNECT
Y’all listen, you cross-eyed babies!
Tonight’s lesson is simple (well, Lance. It’s never that simple)
Prayer & hope
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
… for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Kinda like an afterthought, since only later translations added this
But we’re gonna see that true prayer sparks proper gratitude
An essential element of the Art of Thanksgiving is prayer
Underline “Kingdom,” “Power,” & “Glory”
Whose is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory?
Circle “Yours”
John 1
“In a study on gratitude and appreciation, participants who felt grateful
showed a reduction in the level of cortisol, the stress hormone. They had stronger cardiac functioning and were more resilient to emotional setbacks and negative experiences”
Less stress. Less anxiety. Less depression.
Who wants that?
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Jesus Molina. I became like cross-eyed baby when I saw him.
Anxiety. Stress.
Scholars and researchers may think they’ve found *groundbreaking* evidence on the power of gratitude
Sorry to break it to ya, but it’s been written down for, well, thousands of years
Prayer connects us to power
Put brackets around “Power”
Tire
We have a powerful Hope
Put a box around forever
Revelation 22
His Name is Jesus
Last week- we looked behind, right?
