Same as - us and Sin? Maybe Pride? can’t defeat it? How do we do this? thought I was made Holy through Jesus? Why Jesus, aren’t you defeating it? Today - We are going to talk about pressing into holiness - Sanctification.

Isrealites conquered, taken away, prisoned for 70 years, people got released to build the temple | Laid foundation of temple, got discouraged by people trying to hijack, 16 yrs, God comes in through Haggai and says “Is this a time to dwell in your panel houses while my house lies in ruins” and challenges them - Consider your ways. Week 2; God stirred them up - Go up to hills, get wood, build house - One month in stopped. God came stirred them up - Started again.

“Thus says the Lord of hosts: Ask the priests about the law: ‘If someone carries holy meat in the fold of his garment and touches with his fold bread or stew or wine or oil or any kind of food, does it become holy?’ ” The priests answered and said, “No.” Then Haggai said, “If someone who is unclean by contact with a dead body touches any of these, does it become unclean?” The priests answered and said, “It does become unclean.”

What going on here? Why Haggai ask? Haggai knew.
Wants to show them what’s going on in Heart!
Then Haggai answered and said, “So is it with this people, and with this nation before me, declares the Lord, and so with every work of their hands. And what they offer there is unclean.
Begun building temple | Thought service was making them holy | Even though being obedient - Work was unclean, because sin.
Haggai was making point - Holiness is not transferable, while Impurity is.
Leprocy - Creates leprocy, like a cold - it spreads - but if I am healthy, I can’t make someone else Healthy - but I CAN point them to the DOCTOR.
Sounds like getting Proud | Look how good we are | forgotton something really important - Their identity is not in what they did, but who they were.
Building temple wasn’t making them holy - Holiness was not rubbing off |
didn’t need to earn God’s Favour - Already had it.
You don’t need to earn God’s Favour - You already have it.
Easy slip into mindset | “God will be pleased with me if...” |
You see people loving christian things, more than Christ. ppl find identity in their ministry, rather than in King | love his WAYS, forget WAY MAKER
Being involved in Christian things, does not make you right with God - Jesus, makes you right with God.
If Follow Jesus but no desire to get to KNOW HIM. may be your boss, role model, great guy - Not Saviour
What does Jesus say? “Follow Me” - want to defeat Sin in our lives? Follow Him > All going to make sense.

Jesus Saves - Set free from the penalty of Sin | But I want you to DESTROY Sin in your life so you can CARRY my Burdens!!
How to be holy? 2 ways - he tells us - Called to change - To be more christ like , how? KNOWING - You where BOUGHT FROM UNHOLINESS to HOLINESS.
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
Jesus Bore our Sins, so we might die to sin through the help of the Holy Spirit
I See that Secret Sin = Died for it | Your Marriage = Died for it | Adulturing? Died for IT, sent Spirit for it | Addiction, Died for it |
Once understand this - No other reaction to Obey and Love.

We don’t Obey to get blessings, we obey because we love him
This is what Haggai was Addressing - Hey, not getting blessed for doing things - God wants heart. But you are bringing Sin into my House (unclean). Not Holy Because of a Building or Works!!
what does he tell them?
I struck you and all the products of your toil with blight and with mildew and with hail, yet you did not turn to me, declares the Lord.
Wasn’t trying to Punish - Trying to RESTORE
Turn to God - The condition, is to Turn to God - Submit to Him | Let Him Purify you | Learn His Ways | Walk in Obedience and you will find Life - That is truly life.
I want to be Clear - Not a Transaction - This repentence was characterised by the fear of the lord and obedience to His Commands - not becauase of what they would get - Who God IS.
Look what God Says
Consider from this day onward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month. Since the day that the foundation of the Lord’s temple was laid, consider: Is the seed yet in the barn? Indeed, the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have yielded nothing. But from this day on I will bless you.”
I’m going to reverese the issues I laid upon you - Get close to me, and I will bless you - Not Prosperity Gospel Rubbish | No much deeper and wider.
It says Zachariah | God will give you PEACE | Salvation | Strngth | Honour | Joyous Worship | Glorification.
Joy in Suffering | Let go of temp, grab onto Perm | It’s 3 Months since you started building |
The time has not come yet to enjoy Fruit | but it’s comin | God is for us, keep working on His house, my Holy People - God is For His People = God will Establish the work of his hands - Temple will be built - The harvest is coming.
God doesn’t give us options to consider - He gives us Commands to Obey

He had to live under granfathers Curse | last thing lord says to Zerrababel “I choose you” to rule in my millenial Kingdom - Look at mercy of God - Yes He is not on throne - that’s fine, but you walk wiht God - You give Jesus your life and waht does the Lord say? “I’ve chosen you, I am going to elevate you to special place one day”.

Jesus removes penalty, gives power, removes sin | God is both Just, and Merciful, isn’t He wonderful.

Look at jesus - On the way to capurdium in Matthew 8 - Sees a lepar, can’t do anything - just says “Lord, if you are willing”
And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
He stretched out His hand and said to you…I will. Maybe you just need one touch?
The man is cleansed - There is a way to catch holiness, because holiness is found in Jesus Christ.
No amount of work will save you | Jesus Saves | But Jesus wants to Heal you | He has a job for you.
Jesus gave himself up for the Church - He bought you, from your futile ways - so that you would lean into His Goodness - Be the Light.
It’s not your good deeds that make you holy - It’s the blood of Jesus - and out of that, we lay down our life in whole hearted obedience - That’s what God loves.
Will you build the church with me? Will you Build the Kingdom? Will we love each other?
