John 15:16 NKJV
16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.
Chosen and Appointed to Bear Fruit
Title: Appointed To Bear Fruit
Text: John 15.16
Introduction

1. The apostles must have doubted their appointment at some point before and after the death and resurrection of the Lord

This parable of the vine and the branches was told as an encouragement
The disciples wanted to return to their old life after the Lord has died

2. It is quite common for man to doubt his capability to be useful to God's work

Main Points

1. The appointing is preceded by an election

election is God's foreknowledge of you as His own child
election was not based on "our traits and capabilities"
election was based on "God's own love and affection" for us
John 15.13-15
election took place before the chosen the foundation of the world, and is connected with what we are in God
appointment is given (revealed) to us in the calling, and is connected with what we are to do in the economy of God.

2. The goal of appointing is in order to bear fruit

to "bear fruit"
to carry the fruit such that they are seen by those who look at your life
to be the "bearer" of the fruit that was imparted into you by the life
the "fruit"
the fruit of the Spirit? - Galatians 5.22-23
the holiness of God
Romans 6.20-22
Ephesians 1.4 - that we should be holy
"appointed" to bear fruit
you are called to do something for God
you are called to be appointed to a particular purpose - bear the fruit
Paul's - Acts 22.11; Philippians 1.17 ; 2 Timothy 1.11;
Church members - 1 Corinthians 12.28
every child of God is already appointed to a fruitful life!

3. The key to fruitfulness is to abide

Abide!
John 15.4-6
to abide in Christ is to Abide in His Word
John 15.7
John 8.31
stay in His word, no matter the circumstances
Abiding in His Word will lead us to a life set free by the knowledge of the Truth
Abiding in His Word makes us fruitful in understanding.
to abide in Christ is to abide in His Love, and to abide in His love is to keep His commandments
John 15.9-10
Abiding in Christ's love will help us endure the most painful and depressing tragedies and circumstances of life!
Abiding in Christ is the key to a fruitful life.
A Christian is fruitful only when he/she produces the fruit that is the direct result of his/her being connected with Christ.
Colossians 1.10
Abiding in Christ makes the fruit remain!
in the cursed life, all the fruit die
in the blessed life, your fruits will remain!
Abiding in Christ
Conclusion

1. Know what God has appointed you to do, then trust Him.

2. Make your life fruitful in whatever God has appointed you to do.
