Introduction

Transition

Through faith in Christ, we become children of God.
As children of God, our relationship with God will never change; however, our fellowship with God is hindered by sin.
And so, confession of sin is needed as seen in Psalm 32.
Why Psalm 32?
No other words to describe but the importance of confession.
MAIN POINT
The joy of forgiveness awaits all who genuinely confess their sins.

Introduction to Psalm 32

Author - David
Determining the exact occasion of Psalm 32 is difficult.

Structure of Psalm 32
Reason for praise (vv. 1-2)

Not an action, but the character of an action
Three Verb -
Forgiven - lifts up the burden of guilt and carries it way
Covered - covers the sin from view.
Does not count against - chooses not to think of the forgiven person as guilty anymore.
Illustration
An archer misses the mark - sin
He was shooting for something and he came up short.
Theological application - we are aiming for a righteous living, but fail to attain the righteousness.
Explore why he misses the mark?
Iniquity points to the inner character/heart that causes them to miss the mark.
Iniquity drives us to twist God’s law.
We rebel against God because our iniquity drives us to commit.
LESSON - Those who have been forgiven by God are no longer guilty
David recalls the time when he did not confess his sin.

Summer dried up strength
LESSON - Unconfessed sins rob us of peace.
David remembers the time he genuinely confessed his sin and found the joy of forgiveness.
Sin must be acknowledged

Blaming others, denying, excusing, or covering up sins - what he did not do!
