Introduction
Last week we began looking at Daniel 9 where Daniel is reading Jeremiah’s letter to the exiles in Babylon (Jeremiah 29) and possibly more of Jeremiah’s prophecies that Daniel realized that it had been or soon will be 70 years since the exile began.
Daniel also realized that his people had not repented of the sin that had caused the exile.
Even though Daniel might not have been directly associated with the sins that caused the exile, he as one of the people of Judah/Israel knew he had to repent of the sins of his people.
He put himself in the category of those who rebelled against God’s law and begged God for forgiveness.
As we finish this prayer today, I want to ask the same question and challenge each one of us, myself included, do we intercede and beg God on behalf of our families, communities, and nation to forgive the wickedness of our past and present? 2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”
The Prayer
As with last week I am going to read the prayer in its entirety and then go back where we left off last week.
Verses 9-11 (Recap)
Verses 12-15
Verses 16-19
19 O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive.
O Lord, pay attention and act.
Delay not, for your own sake, O my God, because your city and your people are called by your name.”
Conclusion
Are we like Abraham and plead and intercede for the people of Sodom?
