Intro

Instrument - A tool; that by which work is performed or any thing is effected.
Cutting down a tree with a chainsaw.
Eating soup with a spoon.
Writing something down with a pencil.
Are you an instrument of righteousness, or unrighteousness?

Manufacturing

In instrument doesn’t just create itself. It is created by someone else.
Attached to the world.
Fashioned into an instrument by the luthier (craftsman of stringed instruments).
He knows exactly how he wants to make it.
No two are made the same, but all are made by the same luthier and are made by the same process.
When created, there’s a seal put on the inside.
Creators name.
Date of creation.
Signature.
Serial number.
If you are born again, you are to be an instrument of righteousness, because God saved you to be righteous for his glory!

Maintenance (vs. 12)(Let not sin reign in your mortal body)

Reign - be king.
If an instrument gets left in cold conditions, it can crack, bust open, and thus needs repair.
If an instrument gets left in the hot, the glue can get loose and it can fall apart.
If someone plays it that doesn’t know what to do with it, it could be hazardous to the instrument.
I don’t let Aiden play my instruments, cause he might break them.
DON’T LET THE DEVIL PLAY YOU OR HE MIGHT DESTROY YOU.
You keep up maintenance by regularly cleaning the instrument. (Washing of water by the word)(Daily Bible reading)
You keep up maintenance by taking it to the Luthier to get it set up.
He’ll look at it and see what needs to be fixed.
Psalm 139:23–24 KJV 1900
Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.
It needs to be tuned, before it can be played correctly.
A tuner tells if the strings on the instrument needs to be tightened or loosened.
THE WORD OF GOD WILL TELL US HOW TO GET IN TUNE WITH GOD.

Musician (vs.13)(yield)

Yield - to be at hand and to stand ready. To submit, to comply with, to give way and not oppose.
A musical instrument can’t do anything of itself.
It can’t pluck it’s own strings.
It can’t make it’s own noise.
It needs a musician to play it.
God uses people for his glory.
When Elijah gets up and plays a song, you don’t say, “Wow, that’s a great guitar.” You say, “Wow, Elijah is a great guitar player!”
We often look at people and say, “Wow, what a great preacher, singer, etc.” We need to be saying, “Wow, what a God!”
God used Noah, Abraham, David, Sampson, Elijah, Peter, and countless other people as instrument of righteousness for his own glory.
No musician wants to play a bad instrument. They want to play one that’s easy to play, sounds good, and stays in tune.
God wants us to be ready and playable so that he can use us when he wants!
