Question 24 How is Christ a prophet?

Answer As a prophet, Christ reveals the will of God to us for our salvation by His word and Spirit.

Because Jesus is a prophet we can trust his words.

Acts 1:1–2 ESV

1 In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, 2 until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.

Hebrews 2:3 ESV

3 how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard,

John 15:26–27 ESV

26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me. 27 And you also will bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning.

30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

What does it mean that Jesus is a prophet?

Are we in an inferior position because we receive the word of Christ in the Bible, rather than by living prophets and apostles?

Question 25 How is Christ a priest?

Answer Christ executes the office of priest in offering Himself as the once for all sacrifice to satisfy divine justice. He also reconciles people to God, and by continually intercedes for us.

Isaiah 53 ESV

1 Who has believed what he has heard from us? Question 26 How is Christ a King?

Answer Christ executes the office of king by bringing us under His power, through ruling and defending us, and by restraining and conquering all of His and our enemies.

18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

2 since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him.
