Introduction

Hebrews 12:4–17 LSB
4 You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin. 5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons, “MY SON, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD, NOR FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM; 6 FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE FLOGS EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES.” 7 It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. 9 Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them. Shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live? 10 For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our benefit, so that we may share His holiness. 11 And all discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful, but to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness. 12 Therefore, STRENGTHEN THE HANDS THAT ARE WEAK AND THE KNEES THAT ARE FEEBLE, 13 and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed. 14 Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord, 15 seeing to it that no one falls short of the grace of God; that no ROOT OF BITTERNESS SPRINGING UP CAUSES TROUBLE, and by it many be defiled; 16 that also there be no sexually immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal. 17 For you know that even afterwards, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought for it with tears.
Proverbs 15:10–12 LSB
10 Grievous discipline is for him who forsakes the way; He who hates reproof will die. 11 Sheol and Abaddon lie open before Yahweh, How much more the hearts of the sons of men! 12 A scoffer does not love one who reproves him, He will not go to the wise.

Reproof

Proverbs 15:10 LSB
10 Grievous discipline is for him who forsakes the way; He who hates reproof will die.
Proverbs 4:18 LSB
18 But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, That shines brighter and brighter until the fullness of day.
Proverbs 10:17 LSB
17 He is on the path of life who keeps discipline, But he who forsakes reproof makes himself wander about.

“The discipline of evil…”

The instruction of evil is for him who forsakes the “way.”
The “way” refers to conduct, not necessarily highlighting direction in life.
A person who forsakes the right way/conduct and obeys the wrong way/conduct, will be trained by evil.

How is a man trained by evil?

“depravity” = the innate ontological condition of all men.
The conduct comes from the heart, and trains the body, mind, and soul.
Evil behavior, which is the result of refusing to listen to discipline/reproof makes the life harder and harder, darker and darker.
1 Timothy 1:9-11
9knowing this, that alaw is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and brebellious, for the cungodly and sinners, for the unholy and dgodless, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers,
10for asexually immoral persons, for bhomosexuals, for ckidnappers, for dliars, for eperjurers, and whatever else is contrary to fsound teaching,
11according to athe gospel of the glory of bthe blessed God, with which I have been centrusted.
