We concluded the last lesson with the end of chapter 6
the final verse we keyed in on was
The obvious take away we have from this closing is we belong to God.
We are purchased by him.
How did he purchase us?
The Cross
In chapter 7 Paul gets into teachings on marriage.
Take aways for teenagers.
You are not to touch a woman unless you are married to her
2. Once your married stay married.
There are a select few circumstances that there is the provision for divorce.
But we should not enter a marriage with this as a back up plan.
3. God has a perfect plan for you life, the perfect spouse, or the perfect life.
Seek his will for you life and not your own.
Moving into chapter 8 we see much dedicated to not eating food offered to idols.
This sounds strange in our culture.
But we must remember what Culture he is referring to.
Corinth is a city in south central Greece, about 80 miles west of Athens.
It was a very current city.
Up on all the fashion and vogue of the world.
There were temples made to many Gods.
And there were meats offered as a sacrifice to these Gods and than given or sold.
Most likely it was good meat.
But it must be refrained from as it may have been clean physically it was defiled spiritually.
It can also be a stumbling block to others who are considering christianity.
Paul opens chapter 9 with a declaration of the rightful authority that he has been given.
He is an apostle.
He has seen the Lord Jesus and has been trained by Him.
He takes the next 18 verses and dissects the use of power (authority/jurisdiction)
And he brings the chapter to a close and this is where we are going to spend the rest of our time tonight.
His humility (verse 19)
His changeability (verse 20-22)
His inclusivity (verse 23)
His tenacity (verse 24)
These 4 things he kept in mind because he was Millennium Minded.
He realized there was a prize to be won.
He realized the race we run is not to a temporary trophy or money that will fade.
Questions to ask the crowd:
What is you goal each day
Who is most important in your life
Do you live like your life is yours or belonging to Christ
