I. More attention to Jesus than anyone else.
II. Read Matthew 1:1 and comment on Abraham and Isaac. Matthew 1:1 “The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.”
III. Read haunting words to Abraham in Genesis 22:2 and comment about Abraham’s feelings and ours. Genesis 22:2 “He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.””
IV. The preparation for the test and Genesis 22:1. Genesis 22:1 “After these things God tested Abraham.”
V. God has prepared us, too.
VI. The purpose for the test and an eagle near storm clouds.
VII. Read 1 Peter 1:6-7 and tell story of philosophy professor and final exam. 1 Peter 1:6-7 “In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
VIII. Ever asked “Why me?”
IX. God tests us to help us grow.
X. The provision for the test and Genesis 22:13-14 and 1 Corinthians 10:13. Genesis 22:13-14 “And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.””
1 Corinthians 10:13 “ God is faithful, and he will not let you be tested beyond your strength, but with the testing he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to endure it.” (NRSV)
XI. Jesus our ultimate provision and Romans 8:32 “He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?”
XII. Jesus lives to provide, Philippians 4:19, and is the Son of Abraham and Son of Sacrifice. Philippians 4:19 “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
