Scripture: Phillip and 1:6
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
”Unfinished Business”
Introduction: My brothers and sisters in christ I believe we have heard the saying that “it is not how a man starts but rather how a man finishes” Although this saying sounds somewhat cliche. It is definatly truth in the body of Christ. Growing up before you got into an argument or a debate they would say don't start anything if users can't finish it" Although these sayings are truly believed we all have at one point started something that seemed as a tall task to complete
I have recalled many times where I have begun projects But somehow along the way after getting distracted or something comes up as I may not complete in the time frame I intended. Many times around this time we begin to make New Year's resolutions. We start in January with the thing that we said we would do . However, around April or March, we find that we forget that New Year's resolution that we made in January.
We all sometimes detour from something that we had once planned to finish. So if you are one of those people you are in good company.
But one thing we can rest assured of is God does not start anything that he will not finish.
Many of us have set out to achieve some goals. We have been praying for God to do something’s in our life, God has made us some of us promises and I came to encourage you today that The God who began a good work in us is going to complete it.
Do I have anyone in here that can agree with me to the point that some things are still expected of God to do in My life? There are some unfinished things that I have in 2022. But I’m trusting God that in 23 God is going to give me the push i need to help accomplish what he started.
My Brothers and sister God is the ultimate finisher.
The book of Hebrews calls him the Author and finisher of our faith
The book of revelations
God declares that I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the end.
So he knows the beginning and he is the ending but there is nothing in between that he would not complete in our life.
I believe I have some people here today that can say I’ve patiently waited on God to do something’s in my life and have crazy FAITH enough to believe that if it didn’t happen yet God is still working on it. If it didn’t happen in June God is still working on it. If it didn’t happen in July ,God is still working on it what didn’t happen in August, September, October or November that God is still working on it.
Look at somebody and say.....God is still working!
Sometimes God has to take us through something but it's needed for us to grow. We must understand that it's through the tests and trials that God makes us. Something that we went through this year made us Stronger. Something that we went through made us wiser.
Job understood this concept when he stated, But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
The enemy does not care how you start, his job is to stop us from finishing.
Ecclesiastes 9:11 states the race is not given to the strength nor the battle too strong but the one who endures to the end shall be saved.
We should not be discouraged we should not be distracted when we face trials.
James 1:2-4
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing
This lets me know that the more God breaks us the more he is making us. The more God tests us the stronger he is making us. I heard someone say you can't have a testimony unless you go through a test. You have to go through some mess to have a message.
The key to this is not giving up when the testing begins. Not giving up when the mess begin and understanding that if God started it is he well and capable and able to complete.
Tell somebody to “hang on In there!”
Truth of matter is my brothers and sisters it takes work… Work to get up in the morning, work to maintain a marriage, work to take care of your children. Work to maintain our finances and work to maintain or rightful place in Gods, Do I have anybody that can say “Its work to do the right thing..
The reason so many people give up because they are trying to do the work on their own. However, when you realize that God is the one doing the work and he working through you. Don’t depend on your on strength depend on the strength of God……
Because if there is something that God has called you to do. He is going to give you the strength to do it.
Body~ As we get to the selected scripture we see Paul writing a letter to the Philippians church from prison. Paul the apostle was arrested in Jerusalem, held in prison in Caesarea for two years until he appealed to Caesar.
for the sake of preaching christ.
Was brought as a prisoner to Caesar in Rome so that he might appear before Caesar and appeal his case. While Paul was in Rome for two years awaiting his appearance before Caesar, he was under house arrest. twenty-four hours a day he was chained to one of the Roman guards. One of these men was chained to Paul on shifts, twenty-four hours a day, for two years. Paul saw that as a tremendous opportunity to witness...
Paul even though he was in was going through still felt the need to write and encourage the Philippians church.
Most of us know the feeling of Paul. To be able to encourage people while having your prison moment. To bring a word of encouragement when sometimes you need someone to encourage you. To pray for everyone when sometimes you need someone to pray for you.
I believe that somebody can testify that sometimes I had to smile and encourage others on the outside when I know that some things were happening inside of me.
Even during Paul's prison moment, he tells them to be confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: how many believe that whatever God has started in your life he can complete.
We can gather a couple of points from the selected verse that Paul wrote to the Philippians
Point 1-. 1st thing is to be confident that God is going to complete what’s Unfinished in your life. When God has a plan and calls in your life you have to be confident and know who you are in God. You must be confident in what God has called you to do. Tell somebody to be Confident that God is going to do just what you have been praying for. Be confident about where God is taking You. Let's just look at the word confidence what confidence is not, it not anxious, It’s not unsure, It’s not fearful. “But Websters definition of confidence
Is the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust."
Can I just encourage somebody, that don’t let people ruin your confidence, not only in yourself, Your not arrogant your confident. When your confident in God sometimes it comes across as arrogant to people. But dont belittle yourself anymore. Don’t minimize your confidence in God to make others comfortable .
Look at someone and say be comfortable in what God is doing in your life.
So putting our confidence in God we can understand that even if he hasn't done it yet we become confident that he is going to work it out. When you have confidence in who God is and who You are in him you don't necessarily have to see it natural to believe and know that he is working to complete the work that he has started in your life in the spirit. Start walking in confidence. Talk with confidence...because God is ready to finish the unfinished business in your life.
Point 2 -2nd point we could get from this selected text is that God is working in you.
(Paul said he(God) who started a good work which lets me know that he's still working with me, and through me and Genesis to Revelations, I have never read of God starting without completing
So because God is still working in us we should not be discouraged or hold our heads down when we don't measure up to people's expectations and standards...
"Tell somebody, please be patient with me God is not through with me yet.
God is working in all of us and he will not quit until the day of Jesus Christ.
God will continue to work in us even when stepping outside of the will of God he was still working on us.
It's in Jeremiah where God calls his people clay and calls himself the potter..he continues to work in the clay until it pleases him. The clay was not always perfect but he continued to work on it until it pleased.
1st point was to be confident in who God is and who you are in God.
Point 3 -3rd and final point is that God will not give up on you until your work is completed.
The same God that brought you through last year can complete it in 2023 able to complete it until the of Jesus Christ.
God will not stop until he fulfilled his promise.
You can’t die until God is done with your life encouraged God is still working on you., It was 1 Corinthians 15:58 that stated, Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
The enemy knows that you have greatness inside of you and he wants to distract you so that you wont meet your full potential and purpose in God.
That’s why Before Jesus was even two years old, satan moved on the heart of Herod to have all the male children two years and under killed.
Why was satan trying to kill Jesus as a baby?
He had never opened the eyes of the blind, healed a leper, or cast out a devil.
He hadn’t turned any water into wine, or multiplied any loaves and fishes; neither had He shed any blood as the prophets said He would shed.
The reason why the enemy tried to kill Jesus, because he understood the assignment.
He knows you have something inside of you as well.
However he should of killed you when he had you.. He should have distracted you when he had a chance but he fooled around let you meet the one who is the finisher…
Closing-
and God is going to finish the unfinished business in your life.
Somebody in here can look back over your life and say God Ive come so far.. But can I remind you that God is yet working in your life.
If he started it he is going to finish it. God is not a man that he should lie neither the son of man that he shall repent. If he spoke it its going to come to pass not many days hence. Look at someone and say its going to happen quicker than you think.
The older saints we have come this far by faith. Leaning in the lord, trusting in his holy word,
My brothers and sisters
He that started the good work in your family is going to finish it
He that started a good work in your ministry is going to finish it.
He that started a good work in your finances is going to finish it.
God is a master of finishing unfinished business.
There was a women who had an issue of blood for 12 years it was unfinished business. But she touched the hem of his garment and immediately Jesus finished the job.
There was a man by the name of Blind bartamaus who was blind he went to all the physicians but he could not receive sight...but he heard of Jesus passing by and he immediately cried Jesus. Thy Son of David have mercy on me. Jesus immedItaly finished the job and the man received his sight.
My brothers and sisters we got to get out of her, we have say Goodnite, But we can’t leave without talking about Jesus who’s life death and resurrection is a perfect example of God’s finished work.
He started in a manger born of virgin.
he lived 33 years healing the sick raising the dead, casting out demons, giving sight to the blind, imparting wisdom.
He was ridiculed for his father’s name sake.
He knew he needed to die in order to be the ultimate sacrifice and place man back in its rightful place with God.
on his way to Calvary he had heavy cross to bare.
A crown of thornes was placed on his head
HE was whiped in his side.
He was cruxift and nailed to a cross
They nailed his hands
They nailed his feet
Of the last sayings of Christ on the cross, none is more important or more poignant than, “It is finished. and about 3pm that Friday Jesus died.
and he cried out “it is finished” which means “paid in full.”
He was declaring the debt owed to His Father was wiped away completely and forever—the debt of sin.
He finished what he started.
God’s will for Jesus was accomplished in His perfect obedience to the Father (John 5:30; 6:38).
Most importantly, the power of sin and Satan was finished. No longer would mankind have to suffer the “flaming arrows of the evil one” (Ephesians 6:16).
Because of that it gaurentees that everything we are going to is going to be completed. Look at your neighbor and say don’t you worry everything is going to be alright.
I have a feeling that everything is going to be alright.
8 The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.
