Good morning and welcome to FCC, where we worship God in Spirit and in Truth one verse at a time.
Winter time is pressing upon us and I am always reminded of:
“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.
Praise God that he washes us clean church and that he makes as white as snow.
White= righteousness church.
Because of what Jesus did on the Cross, he exchanged our unrighteous robe, for his robe of righteousness and now we are in right standing with God.

We call this the Great Exchange and we should rejoice and be glad!! Amen!
We have come as far as Matthew 6:9, so let us open our Bibles there and see what the Lord has for us today:

Amen. “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Lord Heavenly Father, we praise and adore you for who you are and because of You is why we are here today. Not but strength, nor by power, but by your Spirit we come to hear from you. Lord we ask you to teach us how to pray in such away that you are not our servant, but rather our Master. We ask you to help us to grasp the high and depth of the model prayer that you laid out for those whom our yours and to simply apply it to our lives. Fill us with and overflowing portion of your Holy Spirit and lead us into all Truth today and everyday. We surrender this time and our lives to you!
In Jesus Name We Love You! Amen!!!

In looking back we have gleaned several nuggets of truth that Jesus taught us as his disciples church:
When we give, we give in secret, not to be seen by men but to glorify the Father and to follow the commands that he has given us.
When we pray, we are to not pray like the hypocrites! For they loved to pray to be seen by men. In fact, they found the largest street corners with the most people and prayed.
When we pray we are not to use meaningless words, or vain repetitions, like the heathen because they believed the more words they spoke, the more likely their god would hear them and this is simply not true church.
Jesus taught us to go to our secret closet or room ( And this was a secret place in the home where the home owners kept their most prized treasures church) and pray to the Father who sees in secret.
And guess what? HE WILL REWARD US OPENLY… WHAT A BARGIN!
Did anyone spend time this past week in that secret place?
As we look at our text for today, I am reminded of Luke 11.
Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” So He said to them, “When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
Church, the disciples were witnessing something supernatural, something spectacular in the life of Jesus.
Jesus was doing miracles, signs, and wonders and they noticed that every-time Jesus raised the dead, gave sight to the blind, delivered the demoniacs, caused the lame to walk, and the deaf to hear, that Jesus prayed and they desired to be like their Lord.
And I think it is very important for us to see that the boys did not ask Jesus to teach them to do all these miracles, but rather teach them how to pray.
And that is what the Lord has for us today.
In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
In this manner, therefore, pray!
What is this therefore, therefore?
It is here because this prayer is connected to the scriptures above regarding praying vain repetitions and meaningless words.
The Father desires that our hearts would be connected to our prayers.
That we would not just pray prayers without even thinking of what we are saying and who we are saying them to.
In this manner, simply means in this way church...
So Jesus is asking us to pray this way.
But before we dive into this prayer, I wanted to let you know that although this is called the Lord’s prayer in your Bible sub-headings, this is not correct.
Why? Well, because Jesus was sinless and we see toward the end of this prayer that sin is mentioned.
A better name for the prayer would be, “The Disciples Prayer or the Model Prayer.”
John 17 is the Lord’s prayer...
Jesus did not give this prayer to us to be memorized and recited a given number of times.
In fact, He gave this prayer to keep us from using vain repetitions.
Jesus did not say, “Pray in these words.” He said, “Pray in this manner”;
That is, “Use this prayer as a pattern or a template, not as a substitute.”
This prayer is to be a template of how we should pray.
This prayer is only 65 words long. And it takes about 20 seconds to pray.
And there are 3 petitions to God +3 petitions for us.
Our Father in heaven-
This is a term of endearment, a term of intimacy, a term of relationship church.
In fact, God is only referred to as Father fourteen times in the Old Testament’s thirty-nine books, and even then rather impersonally.
In those fourteen occurrences of Father the term was always used with reference to the nation, not to individuals.
You can search from Genesis to Malachi, and you will not find one individual speaking of God as Father.
Moreover, in Jesus’ day, his contemporaries had so focused on the sovereignty and transcendence of God that they were careful never to repeat his covenant name—Yahweh.
So they invented the word Jehovah, a combination of two separate names of God. Thus the distance from God was well guarded.
But when Jesus came on the scene, he addressed God only as Father. He never used anything else! All his prayers address God as Father..
No one had ever in the entire history of Israel spoken and prayed like Jesus. No one!
So Jesus here is teaching a new concept regarding prayer to his Jewish audience.
Jesus is saying pray to your Heavenly Father...
Can you see the look on their faces now?
Jesus says for us to pray to our Father who art in heaven church.
As a child talks with his or her father with confidence and trust, so should we talk to Our Father.
Now for some of us, just saying Father is difficult, because many of us sitting here today, did not know our Father.
But God, who is rich in mercy desires to heal that father wound so that you can press into your Heavenly Father, ABBA FATHER as Paul says.
God’s name be honored and respected. God’s kingdom be completed.
God’s will be implemented.
Let look deeper:
In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
Father only 14x’s in whole OT.
Used 17 in this sermon. 70x’s in the gospels...
God had become personal church, In fact, God was standing in front of them on the Northside of the Sea of Galilee sharing how to pray.
Can you imagine what the disciples thought after Jesus ascended to heaven? They were actually talking to their Father who art in heaven.
Have you ever thought that what goes up, must come down?
Jesus will one day return for his church
God is to be respected and honored when we pray:
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
The term fear here in Hebrew is one of reverence, awe, and respect.
Do we fear the Lord? Do we respect Him and reverence when we pray? Or do we go to him like our servant and just ask for things?
In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
Hallowed-hagiastheto- to be counted holy; to be treated holy; to be counted and treated as different.
In the English this does not sound as though it is a request, but it should be translated, “Let your name be holy.”
The word “holy” means to sanctify or set apart.
Christ is telling his disciples to pray that, God in all of His character and attributes, should be reverenced by all men Church.
When this prayer has been chanted quickly, would you say that there is in reverence and awe? Do you think God is counted Holy when the words are meaningless ?
We should have a burning desire in our hearts that the whole world may bow before God in adoration, in reverence, in praise, in worship, in honor and in thanksgiving.
It is obvious that all men do not reverence God but his disciples do, for they have a relationship with their Father who art in heaven.
Yet, there is a day coming in the future earthly kingdom when all men will sanctify the name of God.
But when he sees his children, The work of My hands, in his midst, They will hallow My name, And hallow the Holy One of Jacob, And fear the God of Israel.
And I will sanctify My great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in their midst; and the nations shall know that I am the Lord,” says the Lord God, “when I am hallowed in you before their eyes.
God should be lifted high in our lives church through respect, reverence, and awe.
I think not church!
Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
This is the place of surrender church and the only prescription I know about for surrender is brokenness.
For brokenness is the avenue that leads to the street of surrender and repenentance.
This means that Prayer is not about getting “MY” will done. It’s about getting God’s will done.
Thy kingdom come, my kingdom go church!
Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
God’s will is done in heaven, but it isn’t always done on earth.
Prayer is the manner in which we bring God’s will down to earth.
I believe that in general, the longer you sincerely pray for something, the more days you pray for something, that you will begin to sense God’s will.
A committee of ministers in a certain city was discussing the possibility of having D. L. Moody to serve as the evangelist during a city-wide evangelistic campaign.
Finally, one young minister who did not want to invite Moody stood up and said: “Why Moody? Does he have a monopoly of the Holy Spirit?”
There was silence. Then an old, godly minister spoke up: “No, he does not have a monopoly of the Holy Spirit; but the Holy Spirit has a monopoly of D. L. Moody.”
The Bible promises:

Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Church, this does not mean that if we delight in God, he will give us what we want.
I think it means that the more we fall in love with the Lord, that His desires become our desires.
And then when we ask for what “we” want, we find that it’s what “He” wants as well.
Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
“Your kingdom come”: Literally this says, “Let your kingdom come”, and is a prayer for the coming of the earthly kingdom.
Christians are to realize that God has a plan for this world and this plan will be consummated when the kingdom is established.
We must pray that God will hasten the establishing of the future kingdom. Why?
Because it will mean the triumph of good over evil, and the nearness of Christ is not too far distant, for Christ must return before the kingdom is established.
He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven“: Literally this says, “Let your will be done in earth as it is in heaven.”
As children of the King and participants in the kingdom to come, Christians are to pray for God’s will to be done on earth until the kingdom is established.
Do you pray for God’s will? Or your own?
Your either saying: Your will be done, or My will be done.
You can either: be still & know that He is God or tell God to be still & know that you are you.
You want your will to be done? He’ll allow it.
You want to reject God? He’ll help the situation by rejecting you. If you want your way? He’ll let you go your way.
Robert Law said, Prayer is a mighty instrument, not for getting man’s will done in heaven, but for getting God’s will done on earth.
When a man asked George Mueller the secret of his service, Mueller responded: “There was a day when I died, utterly died; died to George Mueller, his opinions, preferences, tastes, and will; died to the world, its approval or censure; died to the approval or blame even of my brethren and friends; and since then I have studied to show myself approved only to God.”
CHURCH God longs to bring his will on earth as it is in heaven:
And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
He longs for the day when He will rule and reign in the hearts of all men, perfectly—the day when all men will willingly submit and serve Him—the day when all thoughts, all words, all behavior will be exactly what they should be.
We should be living and loving God and God alone.
Our whole focus and attention, energy, and effort should be centered on the rule and reign of God on earth.
It important for us to remember church that we have no right church to ask God for anything that will: dishonor His name, delay His Kingdom, or disturb His will on earth.
Do you struggle with praying God’s will? I know I do sometimes...
We have looked at the first three petitions toward God.
We Hallow the Name that is above every name.
We pray for God’s kingdom to come.
Come quickly Lord Jesus come!
We surrender our lives and wills over to God and pray for God’s will to come to earth church as it is in heaven.
No more tears, pain, death or dying for the former things have passed away and all has been made new.
What is God’s will for FCC and our lives church? What has he called us to do?
I have three quick thoughts that are not by no means comprehensive:
He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?
So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’ ”
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Church Our Heavenly father desires us to love him with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love our neighbors well.
He has commanded this and he desires us to do justice, show mercy, and walk humbly with Him.
A way for us to be humble before God is to pray.
Remember, when our prayers decrease our pride increases and when our anxieties rise, our prayers must rise higher.
God desires us to be in fellowship with him and each other.
How is your prayer life?
Is God your Master in prayer? Are you commanding him what to do or give?
Or are you the master and have you made God your servant?
A young man, who was struggling to let the Lord have His way in his life, knelt to pray. He had been advised to “Let God do the work for him.” But as he was kneeling, he cried, “I want to let God have His way, but I can’t.”
The day before he had cut out of pasteboard the letters “LET GOD” and tacked them on the wall. He rose from his knees and with a feeling of defeat and despair, he left the room and slammed the door with a bang, saying, “I can’t “LET GOD.” ”
On his return to his room, he was startled to note that the slam of the door had loosened the letter D on the word GOD, causing it to fall to the floor, and changing the motto to “LET GO.”
“I will, I will, Lord Jesus,” he cried and threw himself on his knees at the side of his bed. “I will “Let go,” and “Let God,” ” and he did.

Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty, Dominion and power, Both now and forever. Amen.
