Introduction: There are signals all around us!
Today: We are looking at a passage of Scripture that reveals Jesus’ first sign. (Read 2:1-12)
A brief review…
The claims previously offered about the identity of Jesus are now being clarity revealed as legitimate, because Jesus clearly reveals His glory by turning water into wine. This action signals that He is in fact, God in the flesh, The anointed Messiah, the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, The Son of God, King of Israel, Son of man. The result is that His disciples believe in Him.
How does this sign reveal Jesus’ glory?
A believing mother.
Explanation:
Application: Do whatever He says… Do not complicate Christianity.
Am I walking in the confidence of obedience to Jesus?
Six stone jars and a master chef.
Explanation: Purification. Master chef. Good wine till last.
The Jews had drank freely from the law of Moses. It was good wine for them not because it satisfied their greatest need, but because the law prepared them for the good wine that was coming to the table that would actually provide abundant life. Jesus is bringing grace and truth. New wine. New era of fullness of joy.
Application: What does this passage reveal about the identity of Jesus> (1:14) He is God in the flesh. God alone can turn water into wine. He has made the process possible through creation, but in the instance Jesus did with very few words.
How does this truth either start or sustain faith and life in us?
