Thankful for Missing a Field Goal Job 1:21; 1 Corinthians 10:31 Preaching Themes: Thankfulness Many athletes show gratitude to God when they do something good, like hit a home run, score a touchdown, or win a race.
Former Indianapolis Colts kicker Matt Stover has learned to give God the glory even in defeat.
During the first quarter of Super Bowl XLIV, Stover made a 38-yard field goal and promptly pointed to the heavens, giving God glory for his achievement.Of course many players do that.
However, in the fourth quarter, with the game on the line, Stover missed a 51-yarder.
Once again, he pointed to the heavens.
That action didn’t escape notice: “CBS announcer Jim Nantz made note of the action, lauding Stover as a ‘spiritual man,’ grateful for divine blessing in success and failure, victory and defeat.”The
Bible teaches us to give glory to God in all we do, not just if it is successful.
God receives much glory when we praise him and remain faithful, even when things do not go the way we would like them to.

The Season of Advent
-A season of preparation and expectation to welcome the Christ Child, but He is not coming as a child anymore.
He is coming(second) time.
-How should we prepared?
According to the gospel writer, Matthew 24:36 Jesus says, “Now concerning that day and hour no one knows neither the angels of heaven nor the Son except the Father alone.”
Historical Event Reference:
-Jesus makes a reference to an historical Biblical event in the same text Matthew 24:38 “For in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah boarded the ark.”
-Jesus said the people of Noah day’s were living their lives doing the things we doing today:
-Eating, drinking, celebrating marriages-joyful times.
(planning our own lives) without regard for God
These events takes preparation and money and time.
Jesus said the people were unaware of what was around the corner until Noah and his family boarded the first cruise ship.
What a sad ending to live this life on your own turn without fear of the Lord or completing disregard for God and all He is doing our lives.
Psalm 107:8 calls us to give thanks to God not just for us and our family but “Let them give thanks to the Lord for his faithful love and his wondrous works for all humanity.”
Advent
This advent season, let your preparation starts with thankfulness to God for what God has done in your life.
-Do what is in your power to develop a heart of gratefulness.
-Give what is your power to give.
Thankfulness is a part of faith in God.
If we ever believe the scripture that says “God is working ALL things for my good and for His glory.
