Intro

Anticipating Family to Come
Uncle in service/Gave up waiting
Have you ever gave up waiting for something to happen?

Hope always requires patience.

How long do you wait in line before you give up?
How long do you keep praying for something before you lose patience and give up hope?
Transition: Today, we are going to look at at a group of people that were persistent in hope in the hopes that we can be people of hope.
Isaiah 9:6–7 NLT
6 For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!
Prophets came and prophets went
400 years of silence

When God is silent, it does not mean He is inactive.

Luke 1:26–33 NLT
26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, 27 to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David. 28 Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!” 29 Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean. 30 “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32 He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. 33 And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!”
Sounds like the promised Messiah

Hope often comes in unexpected ways.

Luke 1:35–38 ESV
35 And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. 36 And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. 37 For nothing will be impossible with God.” 38 And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

When you choose to live in hope of Jesus, anything is possible!

Matthew 19:25–26 NLT
25 The disciples were astounded. “Then who in the world can be saved?” they asked. 26 Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”
What is your impossible?
Is your hope in Jesus or something or someone else?
