FAMILY - THANKSGIVING

I. LOVE IS NOT SELF-CENTERED (4-6)

· All of what Paul is going to say is rooted in absolute selfishness
o Define selfish/what does a selfish person look like?
TO BE SELFISH:
To be concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure
HOW CAN YOU KNOW IF AND WHEN YOU ARE ACTING SELF-CENTERED AND NOT REFLECTING THE LOVE OF GOD?

A. When you need to be the center by any means necessary

1 Corinthians 13:4 ESV
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant
· Envy: covet
· Boast (need to be seen)

B. When others need to be less so that you can be more

1 Corinthians 13:4–5 (ESV)
it is not arrogant
o To Be Full Of Oneself Is To Diminish The Importance Of Others. Obadiah 1:3 The Pride Of Your Heart Has Deceived You.

C. When you act without class or dignity

1 Corinthians 13:4–5 (ESV)
it is not arrogant or rude.
“Does not act gracelessly”
· Shamefully
· Disgracefully
· Without Dignity
· Nasty towards others
· Behave without order

D. When you are all about getter yours

· Love does not seek one’s own pleasure, profit, or honor [Lns][1]

II. LOVE IS SELF-GIVING

· All of these demands a self-giving that models that of Christ

A. Love Carries the Weight Of Mistreatment from those who Offend

§ Bears… “excuses everything”

B. Love Always Believes In Those Who Offend

§ Believes that God is in control
§ Believes the best in others

C. Love Does Not See Failure As Final

D. Love Sticks With Those Who Offend
