Intro- set up the movie

Love goes to the extremes.

1 John 3:16
The New International Version (Chapter 3)
16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.
We are called to be salt and light in this world.

Focus more on the blessings than the burdens.

Psalm
New Living Translation (Psalm 103)
1 Let all that I am praise the LORD; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.2 Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things he does for me.3 He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.4 He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies.5 He fills my life with good things.
Ephesians
The New International Version (Chapter 1)
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.

It is an honor to sacrifice for others because it reflects Jesus.

Mark
The New International Version (Chapter 10)
35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. “Teacher,” they said, “we want you to do for us whatever we ask.”36 “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked.37 They replied, “Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory.”38 “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said. “Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?”39 “We can,” they answered.Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with, 40 but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared.”41 When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John. 42 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

We can find joy and fulfillment in serving others.

There is joy in serving others.

Wallace finds joy when he is thinking of someone else
Phillipians
The New International Version (Chapter 2)
Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus
1 Thess
The New International Version (Chapter 5)
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Phil
The New International Version (Chapter 4)
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.
Acts
The New International Version (Chapter 20)
remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
The general seems to garner all this respect because he was down in the trenches with the men…he was like them…just like how Jesus knows what its like. He had been there.
We'll follow the old man wherever he wants to go Long as he wants to go opposite to the foe
We'll stay with the old man wherever he wants to stay Long as he stays away from the battle's fray
Because we love him, we love him Especially when he keeps us on the ball

Our allegiance to Jesus should push us to follow Him wherever He wants us to go.

Matthew
The New International Version (Chapter 16)
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. 26 What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?
John
The New International Version (Chapter 8)
12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

We are called to be good stewards of all things, even our influence.
