Introduction

Good morning people of God. I am glad to be here with you this morning. It is an honor and a privilege to celebrate the live of Mother Watson. 101 years old amen! A strong mother of God. A strong woman of faith! While we will morn her death, at this moment lets celebrate her for all that she accomplished and all that she contributed to our lives. Amen!
Those who are able, please stand on your feet for the reading of God’s word. Our text comes from Psalms 23.
And it reads as follows....
Psalms 23 “A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.”
From this passage of scripture I will use the topic:
God will Take Care of It
Are there any believers in the house? Is there anyone who has been redeemed! Washed by the blood, saved and sanctified! I'm not talking to the perfect folks, I’m talking to the ones who recognize who God is and keep pressing towards the mark of his calling.
God will take care of it
No matter what your going through, no mater where you find yourself, I want you to know today that God will take care of it.
By way of introduction, soon to be King David is credited for writing this text. I believe God chose this text because it was one of Mother Watson’s favorite scriptures and it is fits how she lived her life. To be born in the middle of the Jim Crowe era, (post slavery) growing up and living under very harsh conditions in Mississippi, while raising a large family and lived to be 101 years old is a miracle! Amen
I ask that each and every one who can to give Mother Watson a standing ovation.
Thank you.
Can you imagine for a moment what she went through and what she seen and managed to be a successful wife and mother. How did she do it? Mother Watson believed that “God would take care of it” The “it” was anything that was out of her control. Why? Because she, like David knew whose she was and what God was in her life.
1. Who is God in your life?
Lets look at the Text:
“The Lord”
Here David recognizes that God is someone having power, authority, or influence; a master or ruler. He personalizes his relationship and describes God’s role in his life as a Shepherd.
“is my shepherd”
A shepherd was not merely a herder of sheep. Shepherd was a royal metaphor in the ancient Near East. Therefore, to call God shepherd is to acknowledge God as one who rules over one’s life, to surrender to the will to God.
So by saying “God will take care of it” Mother Watson was recognizing God as her shepherd and acknowledged that the situation was beyond her control therefore instead of leaving the outcome to chance, she had the faith and expectation that God would step in and do what needed to be done.
Why? Because she trusted God as her shepherd.
What about you today? Do you recognize God as being the creator of heaven and earth. The one who has the power over everything. The
omnipresent and all knowing.
Today there is a growing trend to talk about a divine spirit or some type of energy without recognizing the true and living God. Today we find various religious groups trying to separate the creator God from the omnipresent all powerful all knowing God. They try to separate God from Jesus and Jesus from the holy spirit.
I here today to let you know that I represent the God of the one stop shop. The good that is the creator. The God who rules the heavens and the earth. The God that sacrificed his only son Jesus so that we can be reunited with him. Everything that is good come from him. Amen!
The next part is........
“I shall not want”
Here David recognizes God as the provider who will make sure that his needs are met. This is includes not just physical needs such as food and clothing but also spiritual needs. In other words, God is all that we need.
This first part of this chapter summarizes everything that follows it. Like David, God chose us. He has introduced himself to us and knocked on the door of our hearts hoping that we will let him in. Why? Because he wants to be the Lord and shepherd over our lives. If we submit to him, he will shepherd us by ............
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
In other words, he will put us in a place of provision, protection, comfort and peace. He will guide you through the journey of life. But we must be willing to accept his gift of Jesus Christ and then submit to his will.
See when David wrote this, he did not have access to Jesus Christ or the holy spirit. While they existed and worked on his behalf, he did not have direct access to them nor have their power. This is true for us today if we don’t accept Christ. God will still do things for us even though we have not accepted Christ or surrendered to his will. Thats called grace. Unfortunately grace will end without Christ. Amen
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
The valley of the shadow of death is everyday life. Each day presents a new opportunity of death. This is true today more than any other time.
It seems like more people are dying every day more so that ever.
604 mass shootings in 2022
Over 1 Million deaths from the COVID 19, countless shootings, drug overdoses and natural disasters.
We are only here because of God’s grace and mercy. God often protects us from death and or destruction in hopes that we will come to him, make him our Lord and submit to his will.
The like the rod and staff of the earthly shepherd, God uses the Holy Spirit guide us and comfort us.
David is not afraid because he knows that God is with him and knows that
“God will take care of it.”
If God be for you who can be against you? David recognizes that there are situations and circumstances that give reason to be afraid. David also recognizes God’s power and authority over everything.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.
David recognizes that not only will God protect him, but He would provide for him in the presence of those who are against him. That they will see him prosper and cared for. He would not just have what he needs, but more than he needs. David in not talking about what he thinks, he is talking about his experience with God.
God can and will be the same for you. All we have to do is accept Christ and all him to be our shepherd. Submit to his will. Most of the challenges in our life are self inflicted. Results of poor decisions. Decisions that we made all on our own. We didn't consult God and those who we may have consulted like Mother Watson, we didn't follow their advice. As a result, heartache and pain.
You have tried it your way and you see where it has gotten you. You made a mess of your life and even those around you. But its not too late. Stop pretending, stop playing church and make Christ your Lord and submit to his will. It worked for David, it worked for Mother Watson and it has worked for me.
If you make the decision today it will work for you. I don’t know your situation. I don't know what your going through. I don’t know how God will turn it around, but I know he will. All you have to pray this prayer............
Lord I know that I am sinner. I know that you sent your son Jesus to die on the cross for me. I accept Jesus to be my Lord and savor and ask that you forgive of all of my sins and create in my a new heart.
If you said this prayer and meant it with all of your heart, then you are saved. Mother Watson made her decision. What about you.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.”
This was David’s hope and the hope of all believers. That we will live a life of goodness and mercy and spend eternity with him.
