Matthew 1:18-25- Importance of the Birth

Matthew 1:18-25 “18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. 20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. 22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: 25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.”

The birth of Jesus is a climatic moment in the Bible. It carries so many important implications from: God’s promises, God’s plan of salvation, and even our lives.

It is a grand moment in scripture!

The mercy, grace, and wisdom of God are on full display here!

I want to give you a quick verse and challenge before we start

Jesus coming brings light and life

The Promise of Jesus’ Birth

Matthew 1:22 “22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,”

Jesus was promised of God

He fulfilled prophecy!

Is 7:14

John 1:45

Because he fulfilled this prophecy we know that he is the saviour!

He is the saviour, he is who God sent!

God has a good track record!

We can continue to trust God’s plans because of Jesus!

2 Cor 1:20

Jesus was not created when he was born but has always existed.

1 Peter 1:20

It has always been God plan to send Jesus to this world!

The Purpose of Jesus Birth

Jesus just didn’t come to hang out on Earth he came with a purpose and plan

HE CAME TO SAVE

The lost!

Those separate from him!

To save from sin

To deliver from sin and it’s hold

Salvation could only come by Jesus dying on the cross

He came to this earth with the cross’ shadow already looming

The Peace that Jesus’ would bring

Emmanuel- God with us

Sin had separated us from God

Joseph the just man trusted God’s way. Are you going to trust in Jesus? Believe his and what he said? He came to save you.
