The Holy Spirit Provides Grace
INTRODUCTION
Jars- these weak vessels show the power of God.
One of the big ways is in our ability to be saved.
We cannot pay for our sins in our own power.
We need grace!
Grace Vs Works
A gift or that which you buy for yourself with your own money.
It feels great to buy things with your own money.
ILL-First new car.
But what if what you need to live is more than you can afford?
It can feel real good to receive a gift that changes your life.
God's grace changes the course of our eternity.
A gift we could never buy on our own.
Grace- a gift we do not deserve. If we could earn it grace would not be involved.
Grace cannot be received until it is realized that it is not deserved.
13 Since we have the same spirit of faith according to what has been written, “I believed, and so I spoke,” we also believe, and so we also speak,
14 knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence.
15 For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.
3 Areas Grace Awakens
3 Areas Grace Awakens
1- Grace Awakens Faith (13)
1- Grace Awakens Faith (13)
13 Since we have the same spirit of faith according to what has been written, “I believed, and so I spoke,” we also believe, and so we also speak,
by grace through faith.
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Grace cannot be received until it is realized that it is not deserved.
Only when we realize we do not deserve it can we step out in faith to receive it.
Salvation is only possible because God first loved us.
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
faith is action
Because God showed us grace we serve him faithfully.
17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!
2- Grace Awakens Hope (14)
2- Grace Awakens Hope (14)
14 knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence.
Hope and Faith
ILL-- Chair
Hope is confidence... confidence that God will complete in you what he started.
13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
It is not about your power- it is about his power.
You were not saved because of works and do not go to heaven because of works.
If it was what we earned we would not have hope. We would be failures.
3- Grace Awakens Love (15)
3- Grace Awakens Love (15)
15 For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.
Faith, Hope, Love- Greatest is...
13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.
10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace:
"grace extends to more and more people"
12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
14 You are my friends if you do what I command you.
15 No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.
16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
17 These things I command you, so that you will love one another.
Love others enough to know the grace that you know.
Love God enough that you want his glory to be known to all the nations.
Salvation is personal, yes. But it is more about God.
Our failure to tell others means we care more about our own glory than God's glory.
9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,
10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
CONCLUSION
Have you received grace?
Have you received grace?
Has it awakened your faith, hope and love?
