Jesus ~ I AM

Before Abraham was, I AM ~ John 8:48-59:

• Jesus is saying that He existed before Abraham.

• He is associating Himself with the great ‘I AM’ statement of God to Moses in Exodus 3.

• Jesus is saying that Abraham was ~ but I AM.

John 1:2

‘He was in the beginning with God.’

Father God called Himself ‘I AM’ to Moses.

Jesus called Himself ‘I AM’ to the Jews.

Jesus’ seven ‘I AM’ statements:

I AM the Bread of Life ~ John 6:35, 48, 51

35 ‘And Jesus said, to them, ‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.’

48 ‘I am the bread of life.’

51 ‘I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.’

I AM the Light of the World ~ John 8:12; 9:5

8:12 ‘Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world, He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’

9:5 ‘As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.’

I AM the Door ~ John 10:7, 9

7 ‘Then Jesus said to them again, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.’

9 ‘I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.’

I AM the Good Shepherd ~ John 10:11, 14

11 ‘I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.’

14 ‘I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own.’

I AM the Resurrection and the Life ~ John 11:25

‘Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.’

I AM the Way and the Truth and the Life ~ John 14:6

‘Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’

I AM the True Vine ~ John 15:1, 5

1 ‘I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.

5 ‘I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.’

Encouragement for this week: Meditate on these I AM statements. Ask the Lord for deeper understanding and what each of these looks like in your life. Let Him reveal Himself to you.
