Introduction: The Hope of Christmas
H - Holiness
O - Objectiveness

P is for Peace

When it comes to peace there is a slight misconception. May believe that Jesus came to give peace on earth? But Jesus said the following
Matthew 10:34–36 NKJV
34 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; 36 and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’
The truth message about Jesus when recieved will not be recieved by all but the whosoever that do come to know Christ will be divided among-est those who have out right rejected who Jesus truly is.
Now the peace that Jesus does bring is one of inner value and experience. On one hand He did not come to bring peace to the earth in relationship to one another but did bring peace to all who receive His precious gift.
Luke 2:8–14 NKJV
8 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: 14 “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

A key focus of peace in the New Testament is the advent of Jesus Christ

As announced by the angels in Luke 2:14 (“Peace on earth …”). Isaiah had predicted the Messiah would be the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6
Isaiah 9:6 NKJV
6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
and He is called the Lord of peace in 2 Thessalonians 3:16
2 Thessalonians 3:16 NKJV
16 Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all.
It is through Christ’s work of justification that we can have peace with God (Romans 5:1), and that peace will keep our hearts and minds secure (Philippians 4:7).

We Find Peace with God through the Gospel of Jesus

God wants us to be at peace with Him, and we can be at peace with Him after our sins have been taken away.
In the old covenant period God did that by means of the sacrificial system in all of its facets.
Now God has come to us in Christ Jesus, and He has fulfilled every facet of the sacrificial system in His sacrificial, substitutionary death for our sins on the cross.
Now we have peace with God through Christ, who is the perfect sacrifice for sin.
As Colossians 1:20 puts it, Christ made “peace through the blood of His cross.”
Colossians 1:20 NKJV
20 and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.
Ephesians 2:14 says of Jesus, “He is our peace,” and Ephesians 6:15 calls Jesus’ gospel “the gospel of peace.”
Romans 5:1 says it plainly: “We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Romans 5:1 NKJV
1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
We have peace with God through Jesus. We can look for peace from other sources, but they’re like applying a Band-Aid to cure cancer. If we look to possessions, power, or passion to bring peace we’ll live and die as fools and suffer eternally without God. That’s not peace, and it’s certainly not peace with God.
Through Jesus we have peace with God, and through Jesus we have the peace of God.
Jesus said, “My peace I give to you” (John 14:27).
According to Galatians 5:22, as we live in fellowship with God, His Holy Spirit produces in us the fruit of love, joy, and peace.
What a future!… What a life! I would not change places with the wealthiest and the most influential man in the world. I would rather be a child of the King.… I have peace in my heart. His peace floods my heart and overwhelms my soul!… In Christ we are … at peace. (Peace with God, 222)
Are you at peace? Do you have Christ as your Savior?
