Introduction
The Messiah (Jesus) comes to bring light into the darkness.
He is describes as a child born, a son given.
Text
Isaiah 9:6–7 NLT
6 For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!
In these verses, God shows how the Messiah will defeat the darkness (despair, lostness, discouragement, without hope).
The Messiah brings light BECAUSE he is the
Wonderful Counselor
Mighty God
Everlasting Father
Prince of Peace
This morning we are going to look at the quality of the Messiah as the “Everlasting Father.”

Everlasting Father

Personal thought’s about my dad: Earl Williams (farmer, rancher, thoughtful husband, loving dad, worked as a custodian at church during his retiring years).
Matthew 11:28–30 NLT
28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
Notes

1. A Good Father Cares

“Come to me…and I will give you rest.”
Jesus cares for people and demonstrates that care through his teachings and his healing miracles.
Jesus is the Good shepherd and meets our needs.
Psalm 23:1 NLT
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.
Jesus, as everlasting father, cares for us, comforts us, and provides for us.

2. A Good Father Disciplines

“Take my yoke upon you...”
Hebrews 12:6 NLT
6 For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.”
Jesus sets boundaries and limits for our good.

3. A Good Father Educates

“Learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your soul.
A good father educates his children on how to be an honorable, productive, faithful adult.
Jesus taught his followers how to trust him and live faithfully to God.
Matthew 7:28–29 NLT
28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 for he taught with real authority—quite unlike their teachers of religious law.
Jesus knows how to teach us—and he teaches us with authority!

4. A Good Father Models

Jesus is not one who says one think and does another. He models the faithful life.
Through His example, we know how to do life.
John 14:6 NLT
6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
Jesus models a holy, righteous life.
Jesus models a life of integrity.
Jesus models a life that truly loves God.
Jesus models a life of obedience.

5. A Good Father Loves

Jesus as the Everlasting Father loves unconditionally.
His fathering centers on valuing people.
He loves the marginalized, the widow, the orphan, everyone.
His love is an outpouring of love of the Father—and the Son’s love pours into us.
John 15:9 NLT
9 “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love.
A father’s love stirs in us the passion to remain in his love. Christ love us and we love him—and our love is demonstrated through obedience and loving people.
Conclusion
Jesus, the Messiah, breaks though the darkness with the qualities of the Everlasting Father!
He cares for us.
He compassionately disciplines us.
He educates us.
He models live for us.
He loves us.
