Is 9:6, 11:1-69
Isaiah 9
6 For unto us a child is born unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 11
1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
2 And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;
3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.
5 And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.
6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
My brothers and sisters I want to speak to you from a subject, A child shall lead them!
I
As I was pondering this message for today, I thought about the text and it’s meaning.
A child will lead.
If we were to look around this room, the most unlikely individuals to lead us as a group would be a little child.
Let’s say a toddler or a preschooler.
Would you trust a little child to lead you across a busy freeway?
Would you trust a little child to lead you through the jungle?
Would you trust a little child to lead you outside in the dark?
Usually, the roles are reversed.
We
We as adults typically do everything in our power to lead and protect little children.
If we went outside this building and we saw a dangerous animal we would instinctively grab the small child to keep them out of harms way.
But the Bible says a little child will lead them (meaning us).
How is such a thing, as a little child leading adults, even possible?
To understand why the prophet Isaiah would make such a statement and who’s this child that he’s referring to we must understand the history.
Bible
Isaiah chapter 8 lets us know that everything looked troubled; the nation was in a dark and dim place.
Neververtheless
Psalm 112:4 “Light dawns in the darkness for the upright; he is gracious, merciful, and righteous.”
If there is one thing that Christian’s know it’s that even in the worst of times God’s people have a nevertheless to comfort them.
Judah had been under seige by Syria and Israel The prophet encouraged the King Ahaz of Israel that God would send relief for Judah that had been destroyed.
You Judah could not be utterly destroyed for eternality because of it’s importance in the history of man.
Fast forward to Isaiah 11 and the prophet says that
1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
So there was something very important about this region.
There was a reason why the city must be preserved.
Because of the city’s significance.
Because of who and what would come from down through the lineage of the House of David.
Interestly enough the prophet does’nt even mention David but rather David’s Father Jesse.
You see even if the enemy tried to destroy everything that David had built there was still a stump.
Have you ever seen the stump of a tree.
Sometime even though you cut down the tree to the very stump, a little branch will sprout out.
A little twig will will appear.
That’s why the bible says that a branch will grow from the roots.
My brothers and sisters, the enemy cannot stop the divine plans God has for your life.
Even if the enemy tries to cut you down.
There’s still a remnant that remains.
Your children remain, your grandchildren remain, your great grand children remain.
They will have skills, talents and abilities that they don’t even know where those things from.
Because you are the stump or your family.
You are the root from which a twig will spring forth even if your’re not here to see it.
Just trust that God will perserve that which belongs to Him just he has always down.
So God says through the prophet that
this little twig is going to spring forth and the spirit of the Lord will be upon Him.
This little twig will grow quickly and understand the importance of fearing the Lord.
This little bitty twig will grow up to be a judge.
A judge of all mankind.
This little bitty twig out of the root of Jesse
This little bitty twig that some may consider weak will slay those that are evil
By now saints surely you must recognize that this little bitty twig is a child.
The same child that is given to us.
And when the child came he fulfilled several promises from God.
Not only for the nation of Judah but also for us today; That child was Jesus and one of the things Jesus brought with Him as He entered the world was
Glorious light - Isaiah 9:2 “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.”
The people had walked in spiritual darkness for so long they had lost their way.
Darkness can be disorienting.
Many people today have been out of communion with God for so long.
Been in spiritual darkness for so long, a regular light is not enough to help lead them back to God.
When the Messiah was born He brought with Him a great light.
Light can effect us very deeply.
Light has the ability to wake us up from a deep slumber.
They need a glorious light.
Jesus is the light of the world.
Joy - joy unspeakable joy.
Even in the midst of dark and dim situations, the promised child gave us the capacity to rejoice even in sorrow.
Isaiah 9:3 You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder.
Peace everlasting - this child will usher in an era of peace on earth like we have never seen before.
The Lamb and the wolf will lie down together.
The goat and the leopard will lie down together, the calf and the lion will lie down together.
Each one of these pairs are natural prey and predator yet under the rule of this child they will all peacefully co-exist.
Even the lttle child will be safe among them.
The little child will lead them.
What kind of child is this?
He is the Prince of Peace.
What kind of Child is this;
God will give him the throne of his fore father David, Luke 1:32, 33.
A child is given to us
A gift is given to us

It is an extraordinary gift
We know now what kind of child is this
He is the Prince of Peace
He is the Light of the World
He is Joy to the World
This child is not a bastard
This child is a son
