This Week’s Theme: Put on the Characteristics of the New Man
This Week’s Word is Holy Spirit: The co-equal and co-eternal Spirit of the Father and the Son, who inspired Scripture and brings new life to the people of God. The Spirit of God is often portrayed in Scripture in terms of “breath”, “life” or “wind”, indicating his role in sustaining and bringing life to God’s creation.
Memory Verse: Titus 3:5 “5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,”
Essence of the Text in a Sentence: Paul called the Colossian saints to to live according to God’s calling.
Sermon Proposition: Saints are called to live according to God’s calling.
Sermon Objective: I want those in attendance to put on Christian virtues based on through faith in Christ.
Sermon Text: Colossians 3:12-17
12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;
13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
INTRODUCTION:
TRANSITION:
I. REFUSE THE WRONG
I. REFUSE THE WRONG
Colossians 2:20; 2:16, 18; Hebrews 13:9; Romans 6:3;
20 Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations—
3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?
4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths,
18 Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
9 Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them.
9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds,

II. REFOCUS YOUR SEARCH
II. REFOCUS YOUR SEARCH
Colossians 3:1; Romans 8:6; 2 Corinthians 4:18;
1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.
4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.
12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.
13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,

III. RENEW YOUR MIND
III. RENEW YOUR MIND
Colossians 3:2; Romans 12:2; Ephesians 4:23;
2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
IV. REMOVE THE OLD WORKS
IV. REMOVE THE OLD WORKS
Colossians 3:5-6; 8-9; Ephesians 5:3-5; Romans 6:6;
5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience,
THROUGH KNOWLEDGE
THROUGH KNOWLEDGE
8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.
9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds,
3 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;
4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.
5 For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
THROUGH THE SPIRIT
THROUGH THE SPIRIT
13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
V. REPLACE
V. REPLACE
Colossians 3:10, 12;
10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,
12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;
