Ephesians 2:4–7 NKJV
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 2:10 NKJV
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Introduction

Paul’s letter to the Ephesians lays a foundation of what it means

To be in Christ

In Christ
++A promise of Spiritual Blessings (Ephesians 1:3)
++We are Chosen (Ephesians 1:4)
++We have Redemption (Ephesians 1:7)
++All things are brought together (Ephesians 1:10)
++We have an inheritance (Ephesians 1:11)
The knowledge of Christ
++The Spirit of Wisdom
++Revelation
Ephesians 1:17–18 NKJV
17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,
Ephesians 2:1 NKJV
1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,

The message of the Gospel must be declared.

Romans 1:16 NKJV
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

It is the key to life

There are three things in our text
++The Passion of God
++The Patience of God
++The Power of God

The Passion of God

Ephesians 2:4 NKJV
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,

But God is not like us

We cry for justice his cry is for mercy
Psalm 103:10 NKJV
10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor punished us according to our iniquities.
Psalm 30:5 NKJV
5 For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.

God is rich in mercy

Psalm 86:15 NKJV
15 But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, Longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth.

God knows us

Psalm 139:2–5 NKJV
2 You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. 3 You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. 5 You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me.
God knows
++My Activity
++My Conversation
++My Thoughts
Romans 5:8 NKJV
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
God’s hand is upon me
++Orders my steps
++He protects me
All night all day....He is watching over me
Psalm 139:6 NKJV
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.
How can God know me so well and still love me so much?

The Patience of God

Ephesians 2:5 NKJV
5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

God didn’t wait for us

++To get right
++To clean up
++To fix ourselves

Only by grace came

++The possibility of life
++Salvation
++New life
2 Peter 3:9 NKJV
9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

The Power of God

Ephesians 2:1 NKJV
1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,
Ephesians 2:6 NKJV
6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

In Christ

++You have been made alive
++You have been given grace
++You have been given a new position

Live like it

Ephesians 2:8–9 NKJV
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

God did it

++He gave His son
++His Son gave his life
++That we may have life
Oh the price that He paid for us
John 3:16 NKJV
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Why did God do it?

Ephesians 2:7 NKJV
7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

That every age would see

++The riches of His grace
++His kindness toward us

We are His workmanship

Ephesians 2:10 NKJV
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

He is still working on us

++To be in Christ
++To complete His work
++To walk it out in life

Don’t just sit there

Isaiah 60:1–2 NKJV
1 Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. 2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you.
Isaiah 55:5 NKJV
5 Surely you shall call a nation you do not know, And nations who do not know you shall run to you, Because of the Lord your God, And the Holy One of Israel; For He has glorified you.”
