Lessons from those that sought Jesus

Matthew 2:1–12 (KJV 1900)
1 Now when Jesus was born in Beth-lehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, 2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. 3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. 5 And they said unto him, In Beth-lehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, 6 And thou Beth-lehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. 7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. 8 And he sent them to Beth-lehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also. 9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. 11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. 12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
Proverbs 1:7 KJV 1900
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: But fools despise wisdom and instruction.
In this account there is so much good truth for us to learn. We see so many wonderful things about our Lord and ways in which we can serve him.
Today we are going to learn how the wise worship!
There is a correlation between worship and wisdom!
Proverbs 1:7
Job 28:28
Psalm 111:10
Even a correlation between fools and their lack of worship
Psalm 14:1
In this story we are going to see how and why wise people worship!
Proverbs 4:7
Proverbs 4:7 KJV 1900
7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: And with all thy getting get understanding.
seek wisdom
Wise Men: Watched for Christ!
Matthew 2:1-2 “1 Now when Jesus was born in Beth-lehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, 2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.”
Led From the Scriptures
They found him because of God’s revelation!
See Jesus had come with some promises from the Bible around him and would fulfill them so people would really know that he is the son of God!
The Old Testament contains over 400 prophecies about the coming Messiah. Jesus Christ perfectly fulfilled every one of them.
The Bible perfectly predicted the coming of Jesus!
That’s how Herod was able to ask the Scribes and Religious leaders.
How did they know Jesus was the saviour and king? The Bible told them and we can trust too!
In Faith
They also went in faith! They had no very concrete evidence but they still went to worship!
That is the attitude God wants in worship!
Hebrews 11:6
Hebrews 11:6 KJV 1900
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Despite Circumstances
They had a long journey to get there but they still went!
May we never let an obstacle to stop us from worshipping.
Wise Men Rejoice in Him
Matthew 2:9 “9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.”
Jesus brings joy
When they found him they were glad! May I tell you that Jesus really does bring joy!
They couldn’t help but talk about him
When they passed through they couldn’t help but talk about who they were looking for!
Wise Men Worshipped Him
Fell before him
They assumed the only right position before Jesus.
We should fall in worship for him!
John said it like this “I must decrease, he must increase”
Phil 2:9-11
Presented him gifts
They gave him gold, frankincense, and myrrh
Gold- Fit for a king
Frankincense- Used in worship because he is worthy to be worshipped
Ex 30
Myrrh- What you anointed dead bodies with
We can present him with the gifts he deserves too
our lives
Romans 12:1-2
Romans 12:1–2 KJV 1900
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
prayer and worship
Hebrews 13:15
Hebrews 13:15 KJV 1900
15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
Obedience
1 sam 15:22
1 Samuel 15:22 KJV 1900
22 And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to hearken than the fat of rams.
Let us take notes from the men who wisely sought Jesus!
