For the next two weeks, we’re going to be immersing in the subjects of life and death – life that is defined by death and death that gives way to life. We begin with the former by looking at Jesus’ dramatic call to discipleship – to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow him. In his invitation, he reminds us that life is all about death – the death of Jesus, on our behalf, and our own death ‘to self’. Everyday we are called to follow Jesus to death. Everyday we are called to die for the gospel. Everyday we are called to deny ourselves and live for Jesus. And the one who died for us gives us the power to do it.
