Last week we considered how life is defined by death – by denying ourselves, taking up our cross and following Jesus. This week we look at the other side of the coin – how death gives way to ultimate life. For the follower of Jesus, who dies to self and lives for him, death is far from a loss – instead, it is absolute gain. It is the reception of ultimate joy and perfection. It is a blessing and a gift. And the hope that looms over death should help us live for Jesus – the one who gifts us everything.
