1. The Powerful attribute of a Soldier
1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
The strength in the grace that is in Christ is not accessible for a someone operating in pride.
Jas 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
1Pe 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
Strong in the grace - you are in a battle
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
The pictures of soldiers show the glamour of the life of a soldier
bootcamp is not glamorous
putting your life
Entangled in the affairs of this life
you cannot fight properly
You cannot endure
You cannot have the proper mindset
We are in a battle for the lives and hearts
Kill steal and destroy
What action did Jesus take against sin
The Cross was a serious need to take care of sin
John saw the Lord in glory
Rev 5:6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
slain = butchered, slaughtering
The Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world
that was through the Son being butchered
The Cross was a brutal place because sin is ugly
the cross was an ugly place
To keep people from the horror of hell
The Cross was a brutal
Sin is not to be compromised
We have a sleepless enemy
Sin never sleeps
Sin is to be mortified = submit and slay
2Co 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Our sin is ugly
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
The flesh cant win against the world
the devil
Mortify
5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
Sensual acts mortify
Sin is not to be played with; it is poison that will destroy lives.
If a child of God does not declare war and mortify sin, they will never be satisfied with God. A child of God that destroys sin in their life finds God as precious and fulfilling.
As long as you enjoy your sin, you will not enjoy fellowship with God.
Sin is not a game, it is an enemy to be destroyed.
Satan is our enemy and no footing should be given to Satan in our life.
We are in conflict with the one that is in complete rebellion to the Creator and Saviour.
The battle will be felt against the church.
The battle will be felt against the home.
If I will not be the spiritual leader in my home the
What is more important than our spiritual life?
A Soldier’s life is one of warfare
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
Tolerating sin always results in heartache and death
Tolerating Satan always results in heartache and death
The Soldiers life is laying down our life
Wife
Children
Church
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
A soldier on his knees fighting in prayer
A soldier being strong in humility
24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
Sin will destroy fellowship in the church
Sin will destroy fellowship with your family of God
Sin and Satan will destroy a child's relationship with the ones that love them so much
Sin creates mental and emotional bondage
It cripples and sends people to lifestyles of heartache and will eventually send people to eternal damnation if they do not accept the Gift of God through salvation.
You will like the result of a life of warring against sin and satan
