Verse 29
Verse 29
Yoke- wooden bar placed around necks of animals to work/pull; symbol of slavery
I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, so that you would no longer be their slaves. I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to live in freedom.
Slaves to sin because we can never attain God’s law
Must work to gain salvation
Produced death
Once I was alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life again and I died. The commandment that was meant for life resulted in death for me.
Without knowing Law there was “life”
Once law made known, we see just how bad we are=death and separation from God
Why Does Jesus Matter?
Why Does Jesus Matter?
Took our yoke/slavery to law & sin made it his own
“Take MY yoke upon you”
Jesus had no yoke, not held down by law of God; perfect never sinned
Why did he do that? God’s love for his creation is so big that Jesus dying was worth it!
No longer held by law, but rather God’s grace
For sin will not rule over you, because you are not under the law but under grace.
Jesus didn’t have to die; was a servant to his people through humility
“I[Jesus] am humble and gentle at heart. . .”
Heart for his people
Rest For Your Souls
Rest For Your Souls
Soul- life/being, with an ultimate source in God
Then the Lord God formed the man out of the dust from the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.
Did not become alive once formed
Only when a soul was given did man become living
Real source of life, our souls
God cares about heart and intent
Does care about physical
God more concerned with heart behind actions
physically we will get tired
Spiritually will be refreshed through Jesus
Things once found pleasure in no longer satisfy like they once did
God takes over and fills us with his satisfaction
*Reminder to kids* God never leaves you and will comfort and strengthen you always!
Now this is what the Lord says— the one who created you, Jacob, and the one who formed you, Israel— “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you and the rivers will not overwhelm you, When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched and the flame will not burn you.
