Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.
The Abrahamic Covenant
Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
This promise was a promise of blessing and favor. But, this promise was much bigger than Abraham and it was even bigger than the Nation of Israel. This promise was pointing towards a greater plan. For with no Israel, there would be no Christ. And with no Christ there would be no grace to which we gain our salvation.
But this promise didn’t start with Abraham but was
Each generation, each person that is listed in Matthew chapter one, had long awaited for Christ’s coming. Each person born would beg the question: “Is this him? is this the one who shall take away the sins of the world?” But to many, they died before ever seeing their promise.
