Intro
The Genealogy
Josephs line
14 14 14

the story of Israel at the perfect time
Joseph Accepts Jesus
the narrative of Joseph rather than Mary and her family
with child by the Holy Spirit
sought to divorce her quietly
angel comes and gives instructions just as it does to her wife
he will be the savior and God will be with you through him
The Magi Visit the Messiah
Jesus is born in Bethlehem of Judea, the place where David is from, furthering Matthew’s point
the Magi are on orders from Herod to find the one prophesied about and report back to him
they follow yonder star and worship him and offer him presents
they have a dream which warns them not to return to Herod so they return home another way
Escape to Egypt
An angel warns Joseph to flee the country because of Herod
going to Egypt, where Moses came from and where the young boys were slaughtered before because of an evil ruler
Herod gives the order to kill all the boys so that this messiah might be killed too
fulfilling Jeremiah- weeping of Rachel
Return to Nazareth
the Herod who gave that order dies and an angel calls Joseph back to Nazareth
Joseph is afraid of the next king reigning in Judah
they live in Nazareth, fulfilling prophecy
Application
Matthew has a point to make with his gospel that the others don’t worry about as much
its very apparent and kinda cool how it all works out
prophets from so many generations ago spoke of all of these things and in Jesus, every one of them comes true
they live in Nazareth, fulfilling prophecy s believe that this is the awaited messiah, but so that you and I might have every reason to believe it too
of all the neat coinkidinks in the bible, Jesus is the most ridiculous of them all
some of the bible is not meant to be taken literally- see revelation
but Jesus story shows its self over and over again to be the truth based on evidence no matter how difficult it can seem at first to believe
