Intro

connecting some dots
seeing the history of the Samaritans and how they came to be so hated
a story not to different than that of the Jews from Judea

The last king of the North

Hoshea does evil but he does it differently
his evil is simply by omission of any relationship with God being able to be passed to him
the prophets might as well just be crazy people who live in the hills
the places of worship for God have long since passed away and been replaced
YHWH is not something ever mentioned and so Hoshea does evil without knowing it in a way
he makes deals on both ends of his politics and all of the northern kingdom is cast into exile by the Assyrians because of it

The Reason for the hate

Israel is taken into captivity and resettled
Samaria, the main region of the north is resettled by the Assyrians
all of this because of what we know and talk about every time we look at the old testament
God had finally had enough and given them enough chances to listen to him until there was not even one left who would
the people will come back from exile and Samaria will be populated with those that the Assyrians replaced them with
Samaria becomes hated as we see in the gospels and this is why
ironically, the kingdom of the south will face a similar fate for the same reasons only a little later
this is why Jesus comes and tries to correct such false arrogance

John 4

Luke 10

Application

the Jews cast out people that were no different from them other than that they lived in a different place for a while and didn’t get to have the exact same story
people have looked negatively at other people for all of the silliest reasons over and over again for all of history
Jesus does the opposite
everyone has a story and everyone has something that led them to where they are even if everyone has their choices to make too
the example we get from seeing the history and seeing how Jesus treats those people is that they are just as deserving of the love grace and mercy as anyone else is
