Romans 5:10-14
Romans 5:10-14
10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
That word life is zoe
-The God kind of life
-a physical sense of life here
-a Transcendent life
Transcendent:
Surpassing others; preeminent or supreme.
Lying beyond the ordinary range of perception.
What are do you see yourself as transcendent?
It would have been enough if he had just reconciled us back to him.
But he gave us a different kind of life
Back to the state of Adam and Eve but still living in a fallen world
11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
That rejoice there goes to
9 But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage?
How is it that you turn to the beggarly elements?
We walk in a different way of existing now.
Walk back in the way of thinking that we’re used to
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Living sacrifice is giving up what you want to do
20 Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations—
Why do we still subject ourselves to the world’s way of doing things?
A lack of knowledge, too strong of lusts or an unrenewed mind?
What comes first?
12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—
The consequences of sin doesn’t stop at you
Sin has reverberating consequences
Have you ever said something you shouldn’t and it spread like wildfire?
Adam’s sin still affects us to this day
It really comes down to obedience
Obedience is discipline in our lives
What’s an area you need to be more disciplined in?
13 (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.
Jesus was Him to come
20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming. 24 Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. 27 For “He has put all things under His feet.” But when He says “all things are put under Him,” it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted. 28 Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.
Jesus took back the authority of the world when he conquered the grave
He gave back dominion to the christian in what God had originally intended for Adam
They only came through Jesus’ obedience
The Same way sin abounds and reverberates
Obedience abounds and reverberates
We don’t see the same outcome of sin as a christian, but we see the negative consequences
We feel guilt, empty, confused
Living in sin is a constant reminder of the fallen world
What attributes have you acquired from your parents? Good or Bad
How do we reverse our sin nature?
