Introduction

We face many burdens and struggles in life
Illness such as Covid.
Stresses such as our jobs or finances.
Even the burden of losing our loved ones.
Where can we turn when times are tough. Moreover, who can we turn to.
The answer is Jesus. Let’s look together at what Jesus has to say about this in these three succinct verses found in Matt. 11:28-30.

Come to Me (v.28)

Who is to come? The weary and the burden. Basically all of us are bidden to come.
Why should the weary and burdened come to Jesus? Christ will give them rest. The ultimate objective in life is to find rest. Many today look toward the world to find the so called “good life”. However, true rest can only come from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
What are the requirements for receiving this rest? Simply come to Christ.
It is a simple invitation, requiring so little and offering so much.
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.” (John 7:37, KJV)
How will this rest effect one’s life?
It will refresh our body, mind, and spirit.
Standing under the water bucket at White Water.
It will bring purpose and meaning to our lives.
Have you ever felt useless and that you didn’t matter?
Jesus can change all of that and give you a purpose living for Him.
It will bring security no matter the circumstances of life.
Zack Williams song “Fear, he is a liar.”
Jesus will take away your fears. He will give you security and hope in a hopeless world.

Take My Yoke Upon You and Learn of Me (v.29-30)

What do we learn about Christ when we yoke up to Him.
Christ is meek and lowly.
What does it mean to be meek?
Gentle in spirit.
Compassionate and merciful
We deserve the fate of Sodom, however Christ bids us to come as damaged as we are and he will give us rest.
Christ shows compassion and concern for the one who comes to Him.
Christ is the ultimate source of rest.
Christ’s yoke is easy and His burden is light.
What is a yoke? It is the instrument or tool used to attach an oxen to a load.
Like the yoked oxen, we carry many heavy loads or burdens in life.
If we take Christ’s yoke upon us, literally yoke up with Him, he will help us carry those burdens.
Weaker oxen matched to a stronger oxen as a team.

Conclusion

LORD, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. (Psalm 3:1–3, KJV)
Are you troubled? Christ bids you to come.
Are you weary? Christ bids you to come.
Are you ready to give up? Christ bids you to come.
Come to Christ and find rest for your soul!
