Luke 2:14 NLT
14 “Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.”
What is peace?
Shalom = not absence of conflict, but God’s presence in the midst of conflict.
God’s wholeness/completeness. God’s presence working to restore the good.
Numbers 6:24–26 NLT
24 ‘May the Lord bless you and protect you. 25 May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. 26 May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.’
Romans 8:28 NLT
28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
How can we have peace?
We invite God’s presence!
Romans 5:1–2 NLT
1 Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. 2 Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.
We focus on God
Isaiah 26:3 NLT
3 You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
We change our perspective
Philippians 4:4–8 NLT
4 Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! 5 Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon. 6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. 8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
Remember, Peace is a Gift of God’s presence...
2 Thessalonians 3:16 NLT
16 Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.
Lord of peace
God made of peace
God who is ruler over peace
God known by/through peace
This God of peace grants us peace. That means He grants us his presence!
Matthew 1:22–23 NLT
22 All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet: 23 “Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’ ”
