Who is Christ

Why do we celebrate Christmas?
What about Jesus’ birth is so special?
At Christmas we celebrate the Incarnation. This is a fancy way of speaking about the Son coming as a man.
Tonight we’re going to look at a passage that really solidifies why this is so amazing.
John 1:1-18
V. 1-5
The first thing that makes the incarnation so special, is who exactly Jesus is.
He is God, He was with God in the beginning, and He is God.
He was just as involved in creation as God the Father was.
He is the source of all life. Nothing is made or sustained apart from Him.
And He is light, meaning He is the source of truth and hope in a world of darkness.
V. 6-8
Here we have John the Baptist who went before Jesus and preached that the Messiah was coming.
He who is coming after me is greater and was before me.
V. 9-13
Christ is the true light and Had come into the world. He was the way of knowing who God truly was.
But despite Him being the creator, the world rejected Him.
Even the Jewish people, who had scripture and knew the prophesies of the Messiah rejected Him.
But the Son of God, to all who would receive Him, who believed in His name, they are given the right to be children of God, and are born again.
V. 14-18
The Word, the one who was from the beginning, Who is God, Who reveals all truth, Who holds the universe together, and would call and make the lost of this world Children of God, He is who took on flesh, and dwelt among us, so that we could know and worship God, and be redeemed from a world tainted by sin.
This is what makes Christmas so special, that God almighty came and dwelled with mankind.
Questions:
Jesus is called the true light and the light of the world, and He calls people out of darkness and into the light. What do you think it means for us to walk in the light?
Since Jesus is truly God, came and took on flesh, and died for us, what does this tell me about the severity of sin?
How can see this fuller picture of the incarnation, impact our walk with God?
