What Christians Should BE DOING, James 1:22

1. If I received the WORD, what would I be doing? 1:19-21

a. What should I make quick & slow? James 1:19

James 1:19 ESV

Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;

b. What should I produce? James 1:20

James 1:20 ESV

for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

c. What will be my reward? James 1:21

James 1:21 ESV

Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

2. If I relented to the WORD, what would I be doing? 1:22-25

a. Be acting diligently, James 1:22

James 1:22 ESV

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

b. Be examining intently, James 1:23

James 1:23 ESV

For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror.

c. Be memorizing reflectively, James 1:24-25

James 1:24–25 ESV

For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

d. What will be my reward?

3. If I responded to the WORD, what would I be doing? 1:26-27

a. By a religious bridled tongue, James 1:26

James 1:26 ESV

If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.

b. By religious benevolent tasks, James 1:27

James 1:27 ESV

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
