What does God want them to know? God is with them, in everything, and saves them
Why? It brings hope
What does God want them to do? Believe and follow

ME/WE
One of the most important things about you is the NAME you carry.
I am not referring to your actual NAME, but what your NAME actually means
When someone says you name or hears you name or thinks about your NAME it carries a meaning behind it.
On the good side of things when they hear you someone say JOHN SMITH: people think LOVING, KIND, COMPASSIONATE, GENEROUS, SLOW TO ANGER
His name has a weight to it
There is oppisite side of thing. When you hear the name DEBBIE LONG your 3rd grade teacher…you think ANGRY WOMAN, mean, GRINCH, NEVER SMILES
Our names carry some much weight God has a command about it about for those who are believers in God to guard the name that is written on you
(this is not the sermon for the day)
What command? The 3rd one
Which is?
God knows this
“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
This verse is not about saying the Lord’s name as a curse word of sorts, though this is not good.
This command is about those who follow Jesus, His name is written upon you, people see child of God, and to act contrary to your NAME, saint, child of God, is to take the Lord’s name in vein.

Descriptions of who there are and were
We see this with
Moses: “drawn from the waters” “deliver”
Elijah: My God is Yahweh
Ruth: compassionate friend (friend to Naomi)
Then there were times when God would meet someone and prophetically speak a new name upon them....and upon on us for those
Prophetic name changes
Abram: “exalted father”
Abraham: “father of a multitude”
Sarai:HebrewPrincess
Sarah:HebrewMother of multitudes
Simon: To hear to obey
Peter: rock, build the church
And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Acts 2....3000 people come to know Jesus
But Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him
Same to us....we go from child of wrath to child of God
TENSION
Why do I bring this up???
Many people were wondering about the Messiah that was to come and has came 2000 years ago.
What name would this Messiah have mashech have: meshach annoited one
- numerous people been meshached before, Saul, David, Aaron, Priest
But what will this Messiah, the Christ be know as?
What is the Messiah’s name going to be?
What is going to mean?
What type of Messiah is he going to be?
Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.
And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly.
But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).
When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife,
but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.
Explain that to Joseph
I am pregnant and it was an act of God

It is the Immanuel name that gives mixed emotion for people…emotions of FEAR and JOY
WHY WOULD THERE BE MIXED EMOTIONS OR Fear and JOY
In the OT how does God show up?
Is it really subtle thing? NO
When God shows up in the OT it is GRANDEOUS, HUGE, it is a pillar of fire, burning bush, whirlwind,
And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”
And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke.
When you here His name is IMMANUAL GOD WITH US…NO, NO, GOD STAY IN THE HEAVENS, GOD STAY IN THE TEMPLE, GOD
2. NOT ONLY THAT GOD WAS ALSO COMING TO BE WITH THEM NOT IN THEIR FINIST MOMENT AS A NATION OF ISRAEL (maybe you can relate or have related before)

When they hear God is with us…they want to run and hid

JESUS COMES IN THE FORM OF BABY, HUMAN FLESH
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.
Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,
but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.

HE FORSOKE HEAVEN TO BE WITH US, IN THE MUCK AND THE MIRE

Where was he raised? Born in Bethelem....raised in Jerusalem, right?

WHO DOES HE COME TO BE WITH MOST WHEN HE COMES? THE SOCOCIAL ELITE? THE PRIEST?

Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him.

He goes to Samarai, those sinners, they are half breeds, half Jewish and half another nationality, He is with the woman at the Well, the one whom every one has abandoned because she was a loose women, been married 5 times and the man she is with is not her husband and yet Jesus is with her.
Who is He with?

He is with people in their pain when Lazarus died…Jesus wept
When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in his spirit and greatly troubled.
And he said, “Where have you laid him?” They said to him, “Lord, come and see.”
Jesus wept.
So the Jews said, “See how he loved him!”
JOY
But some of them said, “Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man also have kept this man from dying?”
Then Jesus, deeply moved again, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it.
Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, “Lord, by this time there will be an odor, for he has been dead four days.”
Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?”
So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me.
I knew that you always hear me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that you sent me.”
When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out.”
The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”
WHAT!?!
first miracle, is at a wedding feast! turns water into wine, yes wine....JOY
WEEPS over Jerusalem because they do not believe
ALONE when His disciples abandon him
He is so human that Jesus knows what it is like to be FORSAKEN by His dad
And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
Jesus says my Immaunel God with us is going to be next to us and feel as we feel.
Whenever once else is gone, I am with you, and I know every emotion that you feel.
WORST of TIMES and BEST of TIMES
Jesus is the loving God, we don’t know need to hide.
SECOND reason we don’t have to hid is because of Jesus’ second name

HE DOESN’T JUST COME TO BE WITH US....great friend…HE COMES TO SAVE US
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Jesus is not coming as Santa....with a naughty or nice list....If Jesus was like santa what he he say about each one of us? NAUGHTY! what do we deserve? HELL PRAISE GOD because without Jesus we are all on the naughty list
If Jesus was Santa
Jesus is coming not condemn
HOW DOES HE DO THIS??
How do we get off the naughty list??
What about the Mosiac covenant? The blessings and curses??
What does Jesus do with that?
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”—
so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.
Blessed to be a apart of the family of God
There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.
Jesus is the sacrifical lamb who takes away the sins of the world
HE DIED THE DEATH WE SHOULD OF DIED AND LIVED THE LIFE WE SHOULD HAVE LIVED
JESUS IS THE GOD WHO IS WITH US AND SAVES US
Jesus took the curse of the covenant
But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God,
waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet.
For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.
And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying,
“This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,”
then he adds, “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”
Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus,
by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh,
and since we have a great priest over the house of God,
let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
WE GOD DOES THIS HE ADOPTS US INTO HIS FAMILY
But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law,
to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.
WHEN WE CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS
We are celebrating the name
Jesus
Immanual “God with us”
Yahweh saves!
THIS IS WHAT THE NAME JESUS
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
