Lessons from Jesus (Old Vs New)

Mark 2:18–22 (ESV)

18 Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. And people came and said to him, “Why do John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” 19 And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. 20 The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day. 21 No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If he does, the patch tears away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear is made. 22 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will burst the skins—and the wine is destroyed, and so are the skins. But new wine is for fresh wineskins.”

Why do things like fasting

John’s disciples and the pharisees were fasting for the Messiah to come and to save them from the Romans

Jesus’ disciples didn't fast because they were with the Messiah

Jesus said when he is gone they will fast again but not for the same reason

Jesus teaches to live for the new not for the old

Romans 12:2 (ESV)

2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Old Vs New

You can Not Mix Old and New

2 Corinthians 5:17

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Jesus paints a picture of mixing old and new

Old and new will rip a hole worse

Old and New will bust and leak

We try to be the new creature that God created us and keep living a life He tried to get you from.

You life is hollow, torn, and busted

you feel empty

you loose purpose

you burn out

We can not live in the new until we decide to leave the old

Isaiah 43:18–19 (ESV)

18 “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. 19 Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

You can not live your new life while living your old one

You can not move to new opportunists till you leave the old one

You cant get live in new blessings when you refused to leave the old

Where are at today?

old decisions

old habits

Are you Trying to Mix the old and the new

do you feel empty

do you feel burnt out

do you feel split

Are you living in the new

seeings Gods blessings day by day

praying and praising God

renewing your life to him.

Today is the day to make your decision

61 Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” 62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
