Intro

Have you ever done something wrong and then had to suffer the consequences?
For example, disobeying your parents and then getting grounded. Or no TV for the rest of the day.
QThere’s also consequences when it comes to us disobeying God. I will be talking about some people in the bible that had to suffer consequences for disobeying the Lord.

Point 1 : Adam and Eve

Genesis 3:1–9 NIV
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ” “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”

What did they Do?

First, God told them not to eat from the tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, but to eat from any other tree other than that one. But as many know, the serpent came and tempted Eve to eat from the tree, even though she wasn’t supposed to. He told her “You’re going to be just like God if you eat from this tree”. Eve ended up eating it, and giving some to Adam too. Then their eyes were open.

Consequences!

After eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, there were consequences to this.
By eating from this tree, sin had entered the world. Men will have to work for their food, women will have to give birth in pain, and there were many other consequences. Now they will see death.
When we sin we get further and further from God.
Just like Adam and Eve when they were sent away from the garden of Eden.

Point 2: The Israelites

Judges 2:11–15 NIV
11 Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and served the Baals. 12 They forsook the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt. They followed and worshiped various gods of the peoples around them. They aroused the Lord’s anger 13 because they forsook him and served Baal and the Ashtoreths. 14 In his anger against Israel the Lord gave them into the hands of raiders who plundered them. He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, whom they were no longer able to resist. 15 Whenever Israel went out to fight, the hand of the Lord was against them to defeat them, just as he had sworn to them. They were in great distress.

What did they Do?

Joshua Victory
This story is after Joshua
The Israelites started worshiping the gods of the Canaanites, like Baal and the Ashtoreths. They did this because they wanted to be like everyone else, they wanted to be like the world.

Consequences!

They became slaves of other nations like
The Philistines
The Midianites
Just like we become slaves to sin when we disobey.

Point 3: Samson

Samson was always disobeying.
One time he killed a lion and then…..
Judges 14:8–9 NIV
8 Some time later, when he went back to marry her, he turned aside to look at the lion’s carcass, and in it he saw a swarm of bees and some honey. 9 He scooped out the honey with his hands and ate as he went along. When he rejoined his parents, he gave them some, and they too ate it. But he did not tell them that he had taken the honey from the lion’s carcass.

What did he do?

The bible says that Samson was Nazarite, that means that there were certain things he couldn’t do.
Like, he couldn’t cut his hair, he couldn’t touch anything that was dead, he couldn’t drink wine, and he couldn’t eat anything that was unclean.
He couldn’t marry anyone from other nations.
But he did all these things anyways, which brought consequences.

Consequences!

His constant disobedience eventually turned him into a slave of the Philistines.
He also lost his eyes. He became blind.
We could become spiritually blind when we disobey God.
Samson was supposed to defeat the Philistines but instead they defeated him.
If we disobey, we too will become defeated.

Conclusion

Disobedience will separate you from God, turn you towards other gods and then make you into a slave of sin.
At the end, you will end up in hell.
the Bible says that in heaven……
Revelation 21:27 (NIV)
27 Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
