We have been studying the Kings of David and looking to Christ as the ultimate King who is worthy to sit on the throne of David
Jesus is more chosen than David
Jesus is more wise than Solomon
Jesus is more tender than Rehoboam
Jesus is more true than Abijah
Jesus is more faithful than Asa
Jesus is more righteous than Jehoshaphat
Jehoshaphat learned a lot of good things from his dad and saw some bad things. But he decided as king he would follow in the ways of David
Looking at Jehoshaphat’s life, it appears that he had a great love for the law of God and desired for all of Israel to come together again.
17:1-3

Setting up a Kingdom of Righteousness (17)

Seeking after God as his father David (17:4-6)
Walked in the commandments of God
He had great honor and abundance that he in turn used to spread the law throughout the land
He was not lifted up in pride but in the ways of the Lord
Sending out princes and levites to teach the law (7-9)
They took with them the law and taught it to the people
Evven his leaders of the army were followers of God (16)

God as the True Righteous Judge (18)

Jehoshaphat tried to bring peace with Israel through politics
He married his son to the daughter of Ahab
Ahab was the new king of Israel (a new family on the throne) so maybe Jehoshaphat thought he could have influence over Ahab by marrying with his family (son could be king over all the 12 tribes again)
18:3-4 Jehoshaphat trying to help bring peace and revival
God is the true Judge who sees all things
Ahab could not hide from the judgment of God (18:28-3-34)
God spared Jehoshaphat because of his trust in God

Setting up God as Ultimate Judge (19-20)

God is with you in the judgment (19:6-7)
Asking God to judge the enemy (20:1-13)
All Judah stood before God waiting on his judgment
No partnering with other nations as his father did, just full trust in God as judge of all matters
Jesus as Judge
John 2:25 He knows what is in man
John 5:17-27 God has given judgment into the hands of Jesus
