John 1:1–5 ESV

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Jesus is Life and Light

John 1:4–5 ESV

4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

He is light of light… pure light

1 John 1:5 ESV

5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

is spiritual life like the sun is the marker of light for physical life.....

Will never be overcome by darkness

Vereses for darkness imply

wickedness, sinfulness in this world, and the resulting punishment in hell that it deserves

Jesus shines on everyone

John 1:9 ESV

9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.

The Truth of Christmas told by Isaiah

Isaiah 9:2 ESV

2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.

Coming out of a movie theater after a three hour movie...... When Jesus shines his light on you, it reveals how much darkness you were actually in! Your sin is exposed!

John 3:19 ESV

19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.

Ephesians 5:13 ESV

13 But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible,

Will you choose the Light of Jesus? to be a Child of God?

John 1:12–13 ESV

12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

John 12:35–36 (ESV)

35 So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. 36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.”

God has shone in your heart...... to know His Glory.... and that through Jesus!

2 Corinthians 4:6 ESV

6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

That is the Gospel… the goodnews… the best offer of all time! That Jesus would give you spiritual eyes to understand your sin, see your need for a Savior, and walk in His light for now through eternity!

The Light is for now and ever!

Revelation 21:23–24 ESV

23 And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24 By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it,

Will you be a light to those around you?

Isaiah 49:6 (ESV)

6I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”

As we pass this light around the room and sing..... Let us reflect on two things.

The Light and life found in Jesus

The Light we must take to our neighbors, family, and friends..... the hope of Jesus Christ!
