Text:Luke 23:32-46
Luke 24: 6
Title: The other side of transition
my brothers and sisters all of us at one point or another has had to deal with some form of transition. We are taught how to transition from one grade to next in grade school. We are taught to transition from one stage in our life to the next stage. However, my brothers and sister we must also learn how to transition when trials and life problems comes our way. I believe all of us are dealing with something. We may not be dealing with the same thing. However we are dealing with somethings. The hope is that we don’t give up in the middle of what we are going through but learning how to go through the transition so that we can come out. Trials are going to come our way. Life issues are going to hit us but it is not there to kill you its only there to make you stronger.
The bible says that all things work together for the good of those who love the lord and those who are called according to his purpose.
James 1:2 says consider it pure joy my brothers and sisters whenever you face trials of any kind because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance and after perserverance has its finished work you will be lacking another.
Paul said it like this in 2 corinthians 4:8
We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed, we are perplexed but not in despair, persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed
The resurrection of Jesus Christ gives us who believe, full confidence that no matter what we are dealing with we too can be resurrected and bounce back.
The life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is an example of redemption, revival and restoration.
The same power that Jesus used to defeat death and grave , he have given to those who believe in his name.
My brothers and sisters What we have experienced in the last couple of years has shifted most if not all of our lives to a of transitioning.
Transitioning from one way of living to a new norm.
In order for God to me to shift me there must be a process.
Transition is the process God takes to get us to the other side
My brothers and my sisters I believe that God is using this season to transition us from place in our lives to another, from one mindset to another, from one level of faith to another In order for us to get that place there must be a transition process to get us there and if he can hang in there during the process there is another side of transition.
Oxford dictionary defines Transition: as the process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another.
Once we understand this process we will begin to see things differently.
Therefor we will begin to speak different.
Im not broke,I’m transitioning to my next blessing,
I’m not unemployed I’m in a season of transitioning to the next Job God have for me.
My brothers and sister everyone loves a butterfly. But most people step on the caterpillar.
If only those who step on the caterpillar understood that the caterpillar is only in transitioning to become something beautiful.
Don’t neglect your season of transitioning, However use the lessons learned in this season when God takes you to your next level.
Main Idea of the text:
Jesus Christ often dealt with transition in his earthly ministry until his final transition. It was necessary that he went through a final transition to complete his mission in the work of salvation. Followers of Christ must embrace transition in all their relationships and circumstances.
Context:
Author-St. Luke the Evangalist a native of Syria. It is admitted that he was the author of Acts of the Apostles as well.
The gospel is addressed to Theophilus
The Gospel of Luke is one of four gospels that tells Jesus story of how he endured this transition. The gospel of Luke was addressed to a Christian named Theophilus and were designed for the purpose of presenting to him a complete and well authenticated narrative of the early history of the Christian movement.
During these times they practiced legal crucifixion which was the practice of executing certain criminals by staking their hands and feet to a cross.
Text: As we get to the text. We find Jesus effectively dealing with transition as he faces the most excruciating pain one could imagine through the cruxifixction process.
Transitioning from Pilate to a hill called Golgotha..We find a very intense scene we began reading the 23rd verse of Luke. We find here Jesus a man who was full of strength became weak. We find Jesus a man who saved many. Mocked by some saying that he could not save himself.
Luke paints a picture that’s almost hard to imagine. We find Jesus going through a transition in his earthly ministry. We find Jesus so weak that Simon a Cyreion has to assist him with carrying the burden of the cross. We find a large crowd following Jesus just to see his execution. We find Jesus placed with two thieves and robbers to transition to the cross. We find Jesus eventually commuting his spirit to the father and transitioning from weakness to strength. From the cross to his crown from his earthly temple to his heavenly throne.
No doubt we needed Jesus to die, we needed his blood for the remission of our sins. However, If it had not been for the transition there would be no remission. Jesus has to go through this Transition before he could get to his father. Sure enough it was not an easy transition but it was worth it.
I think we all can grasp how to effectively deal with transition from Jesus example set in Luke.
1.Jesus didn’t allow the pain of the cross to stop him from reaching his purpose.
Jesus was able to endure the pain on the cross because he understood his purpose.
If you can make it through the pain you can handle the purpose.
If you can make it through this season of economic struggle. If you can make it through this season of sickness you can make it to your purpose. The cross was meant to destroy Jesus. However, Jesus has already said if you destroy this temple. In three days I will raise it up.
So the cross served its purpose even this season of our live it maybe painful but it’s serving its purpose.
(There is a saying that What comes easy won’t last long, and what last long won’t come easy.
Jesus was able to deal with the pain endured on the cross to get to his purpose.
Sometimes we must go through the pain in order to see our purpose in God.
Those who join the military understand this process because they understand when you join you have through the pain of basic months that last from 9-14 weeks of Basic training.
The purpose of this training is to — prepares recruits for all elements of service: physical, mental and emotional. It gives service members the basic tools necessary to perform the roles that will be assigned to them for the duration of their tour.)
The reason God takes us through something’s is so that he could build us to endure what he has in store.
God often waits to give us what we are praying for when we are ready for it.
Job
Marriage
Position
Children
2Jesus didn’t allow opposition stop him from fulfilling his purpose
Jesus did not allow the ones who were taking him through transition to stop him from fulfilling his mission.
Luke 23:34
As a matter of fact He prayed for those who were causing this transition/-
They did not know what they were doing.
They meant it for evil but it was a part of God’s plan... that this transition would take place.
It had to happen if he were to be resurrected
Don’t allow whats causing the transition stop you from getting to your destination.
My brothers and sister if we are not careful we will allow issues and people to stop is from getting what God has for us.
Believe it or not some things who are trying to hurt you are helping you without even realizing it.
God use some hurt some pain some being pushed aside to get us to our next level in him.
If some people wouldn’t have hurt you be were you are at.
They didn’t know it at the time but God uses them to get you to where you are right now.
—-Some people may not know what they are doing but everything that has happened. That IS happening or that is GOING to happen is part of the process and what the enemy meant for evil God is turning it around for your good.
What they meant for evil God turned around for your good.
While you’re in Transition not only should you not let those causing transition stop you from reaching your destiny, but you also need to know who is in transition with you.
Jesus knew who was in transition with him
Luke 23:47–49 (MBC): The first was the confession of the centurion that this man was innocent (23:47). This is significant because any centurion would have been a man of utmost integrity whose word was to be accepted as completely unbiased and true. Also, he would have been the man in charge for this execution (he was in a position to know the man he was executing). Finally, he was a Gentile, so his testimony would have had great weight with Luke’s readership. Furthermore, this is the same testimony as that of the criminal. Thus from both sides of the “law” came the same conclusion—Jesus was innocent. The second reaction was that of the crowd, which was remorse (23:48). The fickle crowd that had cried for His death, that had gathered for the spectacle of it all, those people, after they witnessed all the events, were beating their breasts (23:48c; Luke alone recorded this act of communal contrition). The final reaction to Jesus’ death was on the part of the friends (acquaintances), and faithful women who had followed Him from Galilee (23:49). They were vigilant. They were standing at a distance and waited for the opportunity to serve Jesus one final time.
He knew that Judas would betray him at the last supper he called out Judas. He know that Peter would deny him three times.
Believe it or not everyone that is in transition with you are not there to push you to get to were you are going. Some people just want to hang around you to see if you really are who you say you are. Everyone that is in transition is not for you.
That’s why you have to pay attention to what people say when you are going through. Because its in the middle of your transition if the wrong people get in your ear. They will have you doubting the very call on your life.
There were two people on TRANSITION with him..
One on his left and one on his right...
-Jesus was in the middle-
Terms of his physical position in his transition-
While he was in the middle of transitioning figuratively and literally.
Both of those who were in transition with him spoke a word to him.
One criminal almost identically echoed what the crowd were saying “if you be Jesus save yourself and us”
The other criminal understood that they were deserving of their sentence. However, Jesus did not deserve his punishment. He asked Jesus to remember when he get to his kingdom.
This one asked for grace- He asked God to remember me.....
I’m deserving of what I get/
Truth of the matter is he deserved what he got but he asked for grace-
Some situations we got in~ we deserved to be there~
But thank God for his grace~
.
While the two thrives has different opinions
One asked joined the others in mocking Jesus.
The other asked for grace~
Something happened 6th hour until the ninth hours
The purpose of Jesus transition in the natural form was to be executed.
In the spiritual purpose was to be resurrected.
While you’re in transition be willing to omit your plans and submit to Gods plan.
One of Jesus last words on the cross was
Luke 23:46 “Father in your hands a commit my spirit”
No matter what you’re transitioning to and from or what you transitioning to. You must be willing to cancel your plans and submit to Gods plan.
Jeremiah 29:11
Says I know the plans that I have for you says the lord plans to prosper you not to harm you.
Jesus full submission to the father plan was when he surrendered his last breath and surrendered his spirit to GOD.
When he committed himself. He was saying in other words God not my will but they will be done.
We can trust God with our plans. We can trust God with thoughts, we can trust.
Closing:
So we see three ways Jesus effectively dealt with the process of transitioning from the cross to his resurrection.
He did not allow those who is causing the transition stop is from reaching our destination.
He knew who was in transition with him and he was willing to submit to God’s plan.
We maybe going through a transition now but don’t give up because there is a blessing on the other side of transition.
You have to get through the transition to see the other side of transition.
My brothers and sisters the enemies job is to keep our outlook negative.
However, There is is always another side of what we are going through there is always a positive side of what we go through.
The other side of worry is peace.
The other side of stress is joy.
The other side of sickness is healing.
The other side of heartbreak there is a heart mender.
The other side of the cross for Jesus was his resurrection.
However he had to endure the cross to be resurrected.
On one side of Transition he was crown with thorns on the other side of transition he was crowned king of kings.
On one side of transition he was at the right side of a thief but on the other side of transition he was at the right hand of his father.
on one side of transition there was ridiculed but on the other side he was resurrected,
On one side of true cross He was arrested and tried by the Sanhedrin, en sentenced by Pontius Pilate to be scourged, and crucified by the Romans was stripped of his clothing , hung between two convicted thieves, died some six hour later but they didn’t know there was a blessing on the other side of the cross because that’s not the end of the story they took him to borrowed tomb. He stayed there one day, he stayed there two days but early the third day morning he got up with all power in his hands.
Prayer for those dealing with transition.
•Call to Salvation
Somine may want to transition spiritually that’s not saved. He transition so that you can transition we are asking you to come sanctification is a constant process. When Jesus went to the cross died and rose on the third day. He gave way to those who believed in him to have eternal life.
At the cross, at the cross where
I first saw the light,
And the burden of my heart rolled away,
It was there by faith I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day!
Happy Resurrection Sunday! 🙌🏾✝️💛💗

12Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he poured out his soul unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors: yet he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors
